  1. Get a stihl 441, runs a 25" with ease and so light when your using it above ground. Also much lower Vibes than the husky
  2. Just spray them off with some glyphosphate will be the easiest.
  3. Compared to when I first started out I'm not necessarily much faster, but I can happily climb for several hours in a day, where as it used to seem like really hard work. I think planning what you need to do in the tree so your not going up and down all the time is the key.
  4. definitely get the 150 instead, I tried both and the Makita felt flimsy and was underpowered in comparison, it will also be worth next to nothing if you want to sell it second hand.
  5. Ok i'll plank it up and see if I can get any decent lengths out of it for bow making. I'll put some pics up when I've cut it.
  6. Just felled a large yew with a trunk 2ft thick by 15ft long. Is it worth milling into planks etc? or just log it up for firewood. It seems a shame just to burn such an old tree. In Loughborough, Leics if anyone wants it
  7. I have a client needs a pre purchase tree survey doing for the Mortgage company before she can buy the house, there are only 4 small to medium sided conifers in proximity to the house. I was going to do it myself but with the cost of PI insurance I don't think it would be worth it for me. PM me if you can do it, Thanks
  8. 441 for me, better power to weight ratio and significantly lower vibration than the 461 or 372 husky, that was the main consideration for me as I tend to get numb hands after ringing up big wood all day.
  9. the woodwalkers are good in the dry, they are like ice skates on wet slabs or decking though.
  10. Does anyone have there teeth re-tipped rather than buying new ones? I noticed a lot of American companies do it but have not seen any one here offering to do it. I have the Vermeer type ones and it looks like it would be easy to braze on a new tip.
  11. Be prepared for a very long wait:001_rolleyes:
  12. Ideally use a mewp, if you can't get one in, spike up to a point where you feel comfortable before they start wobbling round too much and get a big ratchet strap round a few of the stems, will make it a bit more stable to work from. That's how I did my last one, although I have never seen anyone else do it that way. Also don't lower down from the stem your anchored on if you can avoid it as a big shock load could snap out the stem.
  13. I use a peltor helmet, one of these, Peltor G3000 Helmet with Optime 3 ear defenders with free safety glasses | eBay the msa sordin visor fits it if you want to add one. I found the square ear defenders on the stihl helmets weren't up to the job when chipping.
  14. 2009 Tmberwolf 150 with 80 hours for £3100. Either a scam or bargain of the year. TIMBERWOLF TW150 DHB 2009 WOODCHIPPER WOOD CHIPPER | eBay
  15. Sorted now thanks to the power of Arbtalk
  16. Need a hand This Friday to do the woodchipping and logging as well as some lowering of branches. Chainsaw ticket required and lowering experience would be good. Call me on 07767 385160 Cheers, Greg
  17. If its juddering then most likely one of the glow plugs has burnt out, get a new set and it should be fine.
  18. Stolen yesterday late afternoon from my garden while I was at home. I'd just got my kit out to dry it off; A Jonsered 2139t top handle saw (red) MS150t Top handle saw (near new) a Makita bx2501 4 stroke leaf blower with (brocken handle) My Climbing bag with a weaver 2D leather climbing harness a Petzl Navaho climbing harness a petzl Grillion side strop and an assortment of other strops karabiners and handsaws my number is 07767385160 I'll post the product numbers of the saws up shortly. Greg
  19. Also found the stein to go blunt quite quickly, it didn't have a particularly sharp blade to begin with though. The only cheap one I've found to be worth buying are the Wilkinson sword ones, Pruning Saw and Holster Wilkinson Sword. My local dealer sells them me for £10
  20. There all quality saws, with stihl though you can go down the local shop and pick up parts there and then, whereas you maybe waiting a month with the other brands.
  21. If its just in your right hand its most likely beginnings of white finger caused by damaged blood vessels from the vibration. Cheap hedge trimmers are the worst for it I've found, use good modern machinery, keep your hands warm and take regular breaks to move your fingers (what my doctor said). as soon as I scrapped my Ryobi hedetrimmers and got some husky ones it went away for me.
  22. Most of the big company's only have a weekly rate at about £500, I normally use A-plant lux.
  23. I felled a bigish pear tree today, completely solid no rot the biggest diameter is about 18" unfortunately I had to cut up the large pieces into 2ft lengths as they where too heavy to get in my truck but may still be usefull for bowls etc if anyone wants it? Greg
  24. GregM

    No risk boots

I've had a pair for 3 years and there not bad, bit hot and sweaty though compared to better quality boots
  25. GregM

    Stihl chain oil

I Noticed that as well, they also seem to have made recent batches much thinner, I'm getting through the stuff twice as fast.
