  1. I had one too. Bit obvious it's a scam really!! Suppose these people need to make a living somehow!! Bentleys are not cheap you know, especially in nigeria!
  2. Orders already! Local paper at 20 quid a week is good, eBay has proven to be the best value at £1 for 10 days. Sold about 12 loads through that.
  3. Steady mate. Doing 5 loads a week on average. I'm waiting for more orders tomorrow as Friday seems to be the day for customers to ring! I've still got plenty left just getting to it is a slight headache as it's deep in the woods! Trailer and landy manage but can't get loads out at once.
  4. How do you go about getting a grant for a processor?
  5. Busy day! Snow is falling here in Melton Mowbray. People ringing who have run out and panicking that they will freeze to death in the arctic conditions. Got 4 loads booked for next week too which is good. My investment looks like starting to pay off! Hope everyone else has been busy too.
  6. Severe snow forecast over the weekend and the phone goes crackers!! People ordering who cant get hold of the usual man so try me! Couple of repeat orders too which is nice! Bring on a freezing feb!!
  7. Cheers for the chain cleaning advice! Will be easier than using the hot tank and mean I can keep chopping!
  8. Noticed how sappy the ash was when I chopped it up. My chain was thick with the stuff! Had to put it in a steam tank to get it off. Any tips on removing it easily on site)
  9. I always thought and have been told that ash is the only wood that can be burnt straight from the tree? Dad burns some of my new stuff on his woodburner and he says it burns lovely) is it a myth?
  10. All logs I sell are split to the size requested by the customer. Some loads I've seen going around look like half rings! They were huge! Amazing how many people ask if they need to split logs themselves as the last lot were way too big! Hence me getting sales!
  11. Good to hear! It makes you feel good when someone compliments your product. We all put a lot of time and effort into this log lark and a happy customer makes it more worthwhile! I am delivering 2 loads to a family who are moving into a local village. Told her i would stack the logs in the stable block on wednesday night so when they move in on thursday they can light the fire straight away! She then informed me that it was a log burner and it runs the central heating! Free bag of kindling included also! Little things yo udo can go a lot further than any advertising ever will.
  12. Recent accident near coventry involving elderly gent with chainsaw. He decided it would be kinder on his back to start his old saw with it sat on al upturned oil drum, saw started at full chat, chain hit lip on drum and kicked, unfortunately no ppe and blade hit him square accross the side of his neck. Terrible way to go and for his elderly wife to witness such a horrific accident. People just don't realise the power and dangers these tools posses. Makes me cringe when I see people not using goggles and gloves etc. We've all done it at some point though.
  13. I'm definitely not dropping price to get sales. I pay the going rate for cord and if I drop my price I may as well not bother doing logs at all! The cold weather is just about to hit so im just spending every spare minute chopping and filling my shed so the logs I take out are perfect and customers tell people and friends, hopefully creating more sales. I'm still new to this but I really enjoy it!
  14. My wood consists of ash, sycamore, beech and silver birch. All been down for 18 months and max of 14" diameter. When split it measures 28, after a few days it's down to 20. Dries amazingly fast once split! I monitor the moisture very frequently! Best thing to do is split as much as possible and leave it to air before delivering.
  15. Been asked to clear some footpaths on local shoot, in return i get to keep the lovely large ash trees! Had an order today so things may be about to get busy! Cold snap forecast for next week!
  16. Snow forecast next week? Been so slow here. No calls a all for 2 weeks now!
  17. Not put in sales as its not yet for sale! 08 reg long way down, 60k, full history, glazed snugtop, just had new front discs and pads, serviced a few months ago. Very very tidy in metalic red. Top spec appart from the poop sat nav! Will be selling in january at some point due to company car coming. Also 12 months MOT when sold. Reluctant sale as its been ideal for shooting as dogs dont stink out car interior! Will be asking around 14k, no VAT as private sale.
  18. When i worked at a landy main dealer it was such a common occurance! 1 poor old boy traded his banged up old series 3 in against a new tdci 90. Nicked within 3 days! New one on insurance, gone within a month. So pathetically simple to get into and steal its embarresing. Best thing you can do is fit a decent tracker, alarm and one of those pedal locks. Dont park in obscure back street places, having said that a friend had hers pinched from tescos on a friday afternoon! Next favourite is .22-250! Need to start ours and clear the 150 yards before i lean out of the window!!
  19. 3 bulk bags out today. Sold 1 to a local bloke who works on a farm! Never thought someone like him would buy wood, but his mrs said shes fed up of him bringing piles of wood round that just wont burn!! Very pleased with the product too which is nice! When is the cold weather going to hit? Im down to a small stack at my yard as i just cant get into the wood to extract my other loads!! Going to be in trouble if i get a load of orders next week. Got 2 big adverts going out too!
  20. Was going to drop a flyer into a house round the corner from me. His sheet was off his log store today and I noticed the wood was all broken up bits of flat pack furniture! Bet that smells nice!!
  21. I started selling firewood about 2 months ago. I saw an opening in the market due to poor quality wood being supplied to family and friends! I had the opportunity to purchase quite a large amount of cordwood thats been down for about 2 years. Sold a fair few loads, roughly 4 bulk bags a week so far. Had adverts in local paper, monthly magazine in january and fancy local quarterly mag now. Supply a couple of garden centres and shops which keeps a regular income coming in. I dont expect to get rich but if it makes life easier and pays for the wedding next year then so be it!
  22. New to it this year but ive done approx 20m3 so far. Very pleased with how its selling now. Really positive comments from all customers. Some are surprised when i say they can burn it immediately and not leave for a year! Makes me wonder what crud people have been selling !
