  1. Hi. Im after a new saw. Fancy the stihl ms250 or similar husky. any reccomendations. Want to spend upto 350. Cheers james
  2. Mintex pads are pants!! Use genuine ones. The 130 is a heavy beast and the spurious parts just dont seem to do the job!
  3. Cheers Steve! Top idea so thought id show my support by signing up. Need to get everyone to search it so it shows at the top of the first page!! Thankyou James:001_smile:
  4. Hi. I have just signed up for a basic add on the directory. Cant seem to find the ad though? Any chance someone could try and search it for me? Post code is LE13 0EP. May be me not done something properly!! Regards James
  5. As an ex landrover mechanic i too can vouch for their ability!! I run a 200tdi 90 which i love and goes anywhere its pointed. We have an 08 navara long way down and i wouldnt dream of taking that where i stick the 90!
  6. It was cut as part of the management policy so was cut to make way for other trees to expand. Theres several decent stacks which i may be able to negotiate a very good price for but not really needed as i have tons of other wood to go at. Just another option if someone asks for something different. Would you only recomend it for woodburners? May take a bit to chop and let dad try before i gamble on it! Would it be ok to log it and store in builders bags, or would it go mouldy?
  7. Bit obscure, but how much would you pay per m3 for poplar? Ive got the ash/maple for £30 direct from wood and the poplar is in the same area.
  8. The sycamore is approx 18 months old and burns like hell!! My dad says it burns very fast in his wood burner. If i can mix the woods it will save me sorting through the stacks and leaving potentially good firewood behind. The poplar is VERY wet under the bark. Would you log all of the wood and store it under cover to season quicker?
  9. Cheers for the replies. So if i mixed ash, sycamore and the maple that would be a fair load for my customers? Didnt want to sell something that doesnt burn well! also been offered poplar? Apparently no one wants it but theres tonnes where i am sat stacked up!!
  10. Hi all. The stacks of wood i have purchased are ash mixed with field maple. The maple seems imensley hard!! Is this a good mix for firewood? Should i leave the maple and double up on the ash? Any advice appreciated! Regards J
  11. Hi all. Today i have sealed a bit of a deal with a large local garden centre. He is paying £4 for a 15kg ish bag of hardwood. Less than i wanted but the 100 bags sold will pay for all the wood i have purchased so far. He wanted 200 but i dont really want to sell all my supply at cut price as i have a few private orders who will pay a fair price. I am going to look at some more stacks of ash tomorrow so i have a decent reserve of wood for the cold times ahead! The only downside is my trusty old saw is getting tired after cutting approx 5000 logs so far!! Bloody hard work doing it all by hand!
  12. Do you think asking £7 from the retailer would interest them? Dont want to over price them, but they can always haggle down a bit and ill still make on them. Ideally wanted to sell in woven poly bags, what advantage do nets have, appart from customer being able to see what they are actually buying!
  13. Im in Leicestershire. Was thinking around £6 quid for decent numbers ordered. Can get the sacks printed with whatever they want at a good price so it would look the part! I dont want to appear greedy but i dont want to do all this work for not very much return! Ive sold 3 bulk bags so far asking £75 so starting to move it. Takes me an hour to do a bulk which i think is quite good considering its all axe and chainsaw! Putting 250 logs in each bag.
  14. Hi everyone. I may have the chance to supply direct to several retailers directly. What sort of price would you charge for a sack weighing 20kg and 25 logs? Very good quality ash and sycamore. Obviously they will want to make good money on the deal but it would save me time and fuel if I could deliver to several large retailers. I have seen the nets with a handful of poor logs selling for nearly 8 quid!! What do you sell the sort of thing I've mentioned above for? Any advice gladly received! All the best Jim
  15. Thankyou for the info. I have seen the log locs, look very good. For now i have split the lengths in half so i have 2 lengths with a flat edge, then tied a scaffold plank to the middle rung of the fence so i can pin the length on top of my chopping blocks. Filled 2 bulk bags in about an hour doing this. will need something to do the 7ft lengths soon anyway. Im knocking the bulk bags out at £75 delivered free local, approx 200 decent logs. Its a real job trying to work out a price as some people seem to virtually give the stuff away!!
  16. Hi all. What do you use to hold shortish lengths of approx 9" Logs to cut to length? Some of the timber is in 2 foot lengths. I have seen the roughneck holder and it looks very good, has anyone any experience of these? Regards Jim
  17. Hi all. Anybody in Leicestershire need any machinery servicing? Qualified agricultural/Landrover mechanic. Please PM with any requests! Jim
  18. Hi all. As a newbie to the tree world i feel i should carry out some form of training on how things should be done. Feel confident using chainsaw but a form of formal training and a certificate wouldnt go amiss! Any run in Leicestershire? Jim
  19. Too true!! Definately wont be under selling it. As long as i can get a few customers ill be happy.
  20. Leicestershire. Going to discuss things further tomorrow. It's good quality wood and loads of it!! Just need to work out if it's viable and can make back the investment I'm borrowing from the wedding fund! If I goes wrong I'm a dead man!!
  21. The initial stack ive been offered will be a bit of an arse to extract but i can borrow a large twin axle tipping trailer and ive got a defender so should manage it. As long as it remains dry for a bit. Id need to move the lot back to our yard first. The other stacks are easier to get to but would still remove it all to yard. I was thinking of doing the manageable bags, think they are 3ftx2ft? How much would they be knocked out for? Dont want to undersell but likewise dont want to be overpriced and stuck with logs i cant sell! Im using 500 quid of our wedding savings for next year to try and make a bit extra. Have done cars and landy work in the past but i want to try something different. Im in Leicestershire so nice and central. Please keep the words of advice coming!! Any vehicle/machinery assistance please ask. Regards Jim
  22. Thankyou for the replies! Its in 3 ft lengths approx 8" diameter. Spoke to someone who came into work today who said he charges £70 for a pickup back load. If i can make a few quid then ill give it a go. My dad is a self employed gardener and gets asked about logs on a regular basis so will start supplying to his customers. How much would approx 30 m3 of ash be worth?
  23. Hi! I am just thinking of starting to sell logs. I have access to a plentiful supply of ash, sycamore and oak which has been cut in the last 2 years and stacked. Ive been offered it at £35 m3. Is this a good price? Is it possible to make any money if i buy it in at that price, need to account for moving it from wood to home, chopping, then delivering it. Not sure how much to charge as prices vary so much!! Any guidance much appreciated! Regards Jim
