  1. Any budding weather readers/predictors out there? How's winter panning out or too early to hazard a guess?
  2. Nearly bought a hilux with big tipping body but it's another vehicle to tax, insure , mot and repair. Keep seeing tippers on eBay but dubious as to condition and whether they are legit. Anyone know much about Bateson? I'm in Leicestershire.
  3. Evening all. After a sensibly priced tipping trailer to make life easier! Any reccomendations or ones to avoid? Any for sale? Cheers for any input! Jay
  4. Ock to hold logs and smack away! Also the shaft doesnt seem to show signs of damage like wooden one. Worked out around 65 delivered from german eBay.
  5. The thing weighs nothing! Same principals as aly baseball bats. Can't believe how much better it works. Agree that stringy stuff is a bit more agro, but the vast majority splits like it's had a grenade stuff up it! Mount an old tyre on the chopping bl
  6. New x27 arrived yesterday so thought I'd give it a go this afternoon. Tried it on the nasty logs that just refused to split with old axe. Blasted them to pieces! Looks like a worthwhile investment. Even split some 2ft lengths by 14" diameter! Highly recommended tool! Buy it from german eBay and save a fortune too.
  7. Can manage 12 bulk bags a day. Makes a he'll of a heap! Only got a chainsaw and an axe! Need to get a splitter as my wrists are aching!! Are the vertical petrol solitudes you see on eBay any good? Around 700 quid.
  8. Evening all. I have been having a think about the viability of getting a tractor/trailer combo. I used to work for a jcb dealer and worked on a fastest with a mighty grab mounted on the rear load deck. Do you think there would be much call for something like that? Don't seem to be many people doing that sort of service round here. What sort of rates do these machines charge? Fancy a change of direction work wise so any advice greatly received. Cheers Jay
  9. Ended up paying 25. Measured very roughly in my favour by the nice man as I'm taking lots of short stuff that the contractor won't have due to his grab not being able to pick it up! Measured at 20m3 but it's more like 40 so very happy. There is only one large stack with birch but cut a piece and It's nice stuff. Just need to sort removal as it's in a right poop place to get to due to steep sloping rides up to it!
  10. All wood looks in good nick. It's had my name against it so no one else has had chance. Plus access is shall we say, challenging! Majority is ash with numerous stacks of silver birch and a bit of beech. Well ventilated and seems to stay nice and dry. Paid 23 cube last year.
  11. Hi all. Meeting the forestry man tomorrow to discuss prices and quantity of cord I want. Tempted to buy as much as I can afford as I plan to increase my sales this year. What sort of price should I be talking this year? Haggled price down a bit last year due to poor access and ground conditions. It's mostly ash and silver birch which has been down and stacked for a couple of years at least.
  12. Hi all. What is the best chain type for general logging work? I'm after something that will really rip through the cord lengths to ring up quickly! I've been using the standard pico dura sharp chain as standard on my ms230 stihl. I've seen some carbide tipped chains, are they any good? Any input appreciated.
  13. How much you after for the 290 and 460?
  14. So does anyone have a bigger saw for sale?
  15. Yes an ms230. Is there a better chain than the standard fitted item? All I do is cut felled stuff for logging. I've just bought a new box of files and one of those tools you clamp to the bar. Any advice on sharpening?
  16. Why did it cut so fast? My engine never struggles but his ripped through! Would fitting an 18" bar help me?
  17. Had my mate helping today. He's got an old stihl 044 with 20" bar. I ended up leaving him to chop while I loaded! Couldn't believe how fast it cut. My 230 may as well have been a handsaw compared to his! Anyone got something similar for sale? Even if it need work.
  18. struggling to put pics up! Any serious interested parties please send me your email ad and ill send some over.
  19. I'll try and put some pics up. Both pedigrees of parents are very good. Many ftch winners in both sides.
  20. I'm in Leicestershire. The mother has done an amazing job and reared all of them! We have been there all the time to help her and kept her well fed! All 12 are stunning and now they are going over to hard food they are really growing!
  21. As if the logs haven't kept us busy enough, we had a litter of 12 black labs born a month ago! They will be available around the middle of march. Kc reg, parents and sister from previous litter are superb working gundogs. If interested then please pm me.
  22. Sorry, meant when do your customers seem to stock up. Had a few say they will have a couple of loads to fill store ready for next winter. Would help me manage the supply I have as it's been terrible extracting it. Filling back of landy and shunting back and forward to the trailer. We isn't the word. I was supposed to help someone out with some cord but just wasn't capable of getting it out.
  23. From previous experience when do people seem to restock their log supply? Could do with some rough ideas so I can extract my timber from is storage area deep in the boggy wood! Wet ground is an effing mare!'
  24. Morning all. Our thermostat says -13 jus now? What's everyone else seeing? Weather forecast said -5 round here!
