  1. 4ft long ish by 6"x6". Ideally a nice Lightish colour. Dimensions are only rough though.
  2. Due to fitting a woodburner In the very near future, nearest and dearest has decided she wants a simple beam type mantle over it. Does anyone make such things? Or recommend someone who can supply one?
  3. That's pants! Had 2 guys who do logs removing my cards from notice boards! Dont bother now as I get more sales off eBay!! Local paper always grabs a few orders each time im in.
  4. Judging by how far down the forum this thread has dropped I'd say most people have been a bit quiet? I've not done a load for 2 weeks but this afternoon had 4 orders for Saturday! People have been mentioning the siberian blast coming in a fortnights time!! Any info? Weather forecast hasn't mentioned it?
  5. Will be using the existing chimney/recess which the gas fire flue currently uses. What do you use where the flue exits the roof? Will come out of the existing hole where flue exits. does it need to be a tallish stack pipe as already there?
  6. Looking at fitting a woodburner when we get the boiler replaced. Need a liner from stove to roof, are the twin wall flexi liners suitable for this? Seem like a cheaper option than rigid twin wall systems. Any advice appreciated.
  7. New saw put through it's paces today. Had an ms230 which went back under warranty so upgraded to this. Vibrations are far lower than the 230. Cut half as much again on a tank which surprised me as it works very hard. Strange saw as the 230 used to bog down a bit when mid way through a large cut but the 241 just knuckled down and powered on! Almost like a turbo cutting in! Another plus point is how clean the saw stays, no dust at all stuck on the saw or inside it. Seemed to get more power as I used it which I assume is the mtronic resetting itself. Looking forward to seeing how it keeps improving.
  8. Exactly why I use bulk bags! People can visualise the bags so no confusion!
  9. Defo check handbrake isn't binding. Can make trans appear shot and give off clutch smell as shoes heat up. Is it a td5 or earlier model?
  10. Just watching people working with trees makes me feel happy! Wish I'd gone into it when I was a lot younger instead of mechanics!!
  11. Outstanding! What an impressive machine. Tried it out this afternoon when the rain stopped. Only put 1 tank through it so still early days. Cut twice the logs on the tank than the ms230 used to manage. Much better vibration control. Power is awesome! Initially bogged then went when i started cutting but gradually it started to really pull. Supposedly it will keep improving until half dozen tanks then a calibration mode must be carried out to set it again. Where the 230 used to die down mid cut this just kept going. Wood chip flying much further behind than normal too.
  12. I'm stuck using the axe as we have no power at the yard and the old Nuffield with a hydraulic splitter would be slow. Keep looking at the cheap petrol splitters,600 quid ish.
  13. 20 mins with a fiskars x27. Amazing how much quicker I can split with it compared to the large felling axe I was using. Can cut and split 4 m3 an hour.
  14. 75 for a large bulk bag. People don't mind paying for a quality product. Seen some appalling loads being driven around lately! Don't sell cheap! All the hard work and sweat that goes into producing 1 load needs to be reflected in the price charged. I also purchase my cord so need to take that into account. If you get the wood free and sell it for peanuts then good on you, the customers won't care how long it took to produce. Needs to be more consistency between us all. There will allways be the odd side job bloke doing it for nought!
  15. What will need destroying on site? Thought just branch and twig was destroyed and trunk could be used as firewood? Was in the wood today where I keep all my cord and looking around at all the ash that may disappear from the scene and I got quite choked up! Really sad state if they all have to come down.
  16. How on earth will this be dealt with? Presumably when Dutch elm disease struck, health and safety was pretty non existent. Would it take years to remove all ash trees? Is this grave problem really going to create a mass flood of work? I don't have my cs Certs at present. Shall I invest the thick end of 1k on training? Will be a very sad state as we have 5 stunning enormous ash trees at our field.
  17. Gone really quiet this last 2 weeks! Hopefully cold snap will get things moving again.
  18. Local bloke to me has resorted to removing my adverts off local village noticeboards! He uses a hilux to deliver loads and claims 2 cube per load, he even leaves the spare wheel in the bed! Level load too so would be amazed if 2 cube fitted! I sell by the bulk bag as it's easier to describe How much you get! Easier than saying "trailer full"! People will always try and get a better deal, you just need to offer a quality product.
  19. Change of plan! Going for 241cm! 16" bar as reviews seem pretty consistent. Will give some amateur feedback when I get it. Cheers for the advice, much appreciated!
  20. Been to have a look today and narrowed it down to ms362 or ms391. Any feedback appreciated!
  21. Hi all! Stihl dealer has decided to offer me a replacement saw for my ms230 due to it dragging dust past the air filter. The question is what do I get! It has to be stihl again, so no husky ideas please! Narrowed choice down to ms261, 291, 362 or a 391. All I do is chop logs so need something zippy, reliable and not offensively heavy! 16" or 18" also. Any advice greatly appreciated.
  22. Hi all. I have noticed that there is a lot of dust passing the air filter. I have replaced the original item with a new fleece type one. After a quick google search it seems it's a common fault in America! Anyone had any experience with this? Going into local dealer on Monday as warranty runs out end of October.
  23. Too right Jon! Would be nice to double last years sales!
  24. Started selling last week. Done 6 orders so far with another one for tomorrow. first sales last year were November! May be in for a busy one!
