  1. Amazing work, the man is a chainsaw god
  2. My first go at an eagle. Done a rough block out at the end of last summer and it's sat under a tarp until recently when I've had more time & got my new carving bar All chainsaw, finished the beak / claws with sander & eyes with hand chisel
  3. Or something like this ... Saburr-Tooth :: 1/8” Shank Tools Great for detail work
  4. How are you finding it compared to the more expensive brands?
  5. Good job, looks like a nice sturdy gate
  6. Nice work, those benches look great!
  7. Great stuff Grizz, the eyes really bring it to life
  8. Dave, I've tried out the Liberon Decking Oil & it's got a nice thick consistency compared to the runnier B&Q brand so less dripping! Goes on well with a brush & a nice finish, as for long term protection only time will tell but over all very pleased for the amount spent
  9. Skiing noooooooo you wouldn't catch me on 2 planks But hoping to go boarding in France and grab a late deal for Tignes / Val d'Isère or 3 Vallées late Jan early Feb, have a few friends boarding in France at the mo & they say the white stuffs epic Went to L'Alpe d'Huez last year, nice resort & some high mountains but beware of lack of snow & too much sun as it turns the slopes into an ice rink! Also Hit Les Arcs & La Plagne a few years ago which is a great resort & plenty of wide runs
  10. Hi Ian, I'm using an Echo CS280 with a cannon 1/4 tip & its absolutely brill If you're looking for a bar try Rob D on here he has a selction of cannon, Oregon, Zebra & Stihl carving bars
  11. Cheers FriarsGorse liking the meerkats got a few of these on the go myself. All the best & a happy 'n' healthy new year to you too
  12. Dave, See what you mean about the go systems I've only used a burner on a few small pieces previously but on this new carving what I thought would take me 30 mins ended up taking HOURS to scorch...have to say what started off as good fun got a bit tedious in the end! Have you come up with any solutions yet?
  13. Nice work Dick, it's amazing the effects you can achieve by using a mixture of different techniques
  14. Ordered 5L last night so it should be here by the middle of next week, fingers crossed its ok, but for that price I think its worth a try ...will let you know how it works out.
  15. Hey Grizz, theres nothing wrong with those wee fella's, great work for ya first attempt
  16. Hey Dick, nothing wrong with rednecks I enjoy my weekly viewing of Saw dogs & Chainsaw gang! Looking forward to having the opportunity to carve & learn different techniques from experienced carvers. I'll get on the dog n bone later to arrange hooking up with you & Gem
  17. Many thanks for the feedback I guess there's no right or wrong & it's down to personal taste at the end of the day. I totally have to agree wood does look better in its natural form but subtle use of colour can work well if it's used to enhance rather than cover and I see what you mean about the bold use of colour on cartoon type pieces but the machine Jesse Green seems to have that dialled in for his style of carving Appreciate those handy techniques Dave, think I have an old bottle of vinegar stashed in the back of the cupboard so I'll brew some up later on & try it out tomorrow. Has anyone tried out Liberon Decking Oil?? Just seen 5 litre cans going for £14.20 with free P&P Think I'm gonna have some fun with the blow torch tomorrow...... right after I've carved another eagle Cheers Gee
  18. Hey Dick sounds like a plan Just hope this infernal wet stuff clears up! Are you carving abroad?
  19. Hi Dave, I've been using the Go system torch from B & Q which I agree can be a bit hit n miss but seems to function ok even upside down. I've also tried the Go system pro auto power torch with its own ignition system which is a very handy feature, it works upside down & has a slightly better flame than a standard Go system torch. For the smaller stuff I picked up a wee flambéing gas burner which gives a tight flame & should come in handy for more detailed scorching + both are compact & won't take up much space. Hope this helps Gee
  20. Nice piece Armin & some great work on your site
  21. Haha, we all have those... Oh Bugger! moments, but theres nowt wrong with that piece chris
  22. Nice one ballymac thats a cool lil seat
  23. Looks good happycarver, I'm working on an eagle at the mo hope it turns out as good as yours!
