    Smaller diameter pruning wounds will callous over if done correctly, if you leave stubs they won't be able to.

    Like I said, arrogance. I've been climbing for over 12 years, and got most of the silly mistakes out of the way early on. I've had very competent friends have mistakes, but I obviously thought I was better than that. That'll learn me.

Would've taken a few seconds to put a second attachment in. Was an easy job so probably wasn't concentrating much either. I usually just come clean through with the saw on timber, I hate step cutting bigger stuff. Sometimes I pop a mini wedge in the kerf to let me complete the cut. Maybe I should rethink that for ivy covered stuff where I might get the saw snagged on exit.

    I guess I was complacent, lazy or stupid. Possibly all three. Final chog on an ivy covered stem, didn't bother with putting my main line in as it was a pain to reach around the ivy. 500i got pulled by a bit of ivy coming out the cut and just cut clean through my lanyard. Was only about 4m from the deck so walked away with a stiff neck and bruised pride.

I would call your loler guys bullshit on that one I'm afraid. You're confusing common sense with HSE and PUWER legislation. You should know better by now mate.

    I'm still using mine mate, we know full well the world is full of retards trying to break kit. Dmm haven't released any in depth info of the failure nor have they come forward with a timely recall procedure. Out of the ten of thousands of those swivels in production one alleged count of failure isn't enough to worry me.

    It's always worked for me. No need for a 60m line this way. I use a 25m and 45m rope which covers most bases.

    Using a carabiner is fine. I prefer a quad lock for applications like that. Bowline to bowline connection sounds a bit dodgy, but I can't put my finger on why. If I was tying the ropes together I'd use a double fisherman's.

    The 572 is heavy and underpowered compared to the 500. Don't waste your money.

    You're right to be concerned. Adjusting the carb on those saws is bloody impossible...

    The camp gyro swivel is the best solution I've found. Keeps everything oriented nicely with no twisting.

    I'm sure most company owners would be keen to know where this thousand keen fit grafters are queueing up for work 🙄 If you're reliable and enthusiastic and don't mind a bit of graft you'll have no problem getting a few days here and there with a few firms, especially if you don't mind travelling a bit. I'd suggest doing a few days before deciding if you want to invest in training. Get yourself a lid and a pair of work boots, nobody likes that bloke that turns up in his reeboks.
