  1. Does anyone have any pictures of their landrover underbody storage boxes? I tried searching and found a few but looking to see if anyone has the abs plastic type ones. Got storage in the tipper body just looking at some additional storage for odds and ends.
  2. Been using sip freedoms for 12 months or so now and recon they may do another 6 months with no major repairs. I have always worn type 'a' trousers for climbing so having the addition protection up to knee height I thought I'd find them heavier and too bulky but you hardly notice it they are so light. And I do quite like having the added layer of security. Nice and flexible with a fairly tailored fit, but still loose around the legs (I hate the ones that look like leggings!) they are pretty hard wearing and I've had no seems split and no major rips, though I'm pretty good at sewing up the little nicks before they get too big. The resent deluge of wet weather has forced me to buy a second pair of trousers so I can rotate and always have a dry pair and I brought these again with no hesitation.
  3. Not fully read the links but I've coppice tons of alder, lots of it massively over stood, and had almost 100% success with regrowth, can't comment too much on the longevity of the regrowth as most of this has been in the last 4 years but its all still going strong. I also know that all the riverbanks round my way (herefordshire/shropshire) used to be coppiced on a semi regular basis and most of it is alder. its only in the least 30 - 50 years that it has come out of rotation.
  4. I often wonder if someone should look into how much tension the line is under and how that effects how easy it is to cut? Because a single line is bearing the full weight does it mean the fibres separate more readily than a ddrt system, say in the case of just nicking it with the saw or silky? We all know it's easier to cut straps and stuff when they are tighter can the same be said for climbing line? I've certainly noticed how much tighter my rope it when climbing srt.
  5. only had mine a week or so and its playing up a bit, keeps cutting out, often mid cut whilst on full revs, then won't start for a good few pulls, guessing i may have done something wrong with the auto tune? thought id set it fine. any suggestions?
  6. I'm on my second one of these, always got on pretty well with them. I tend to have my saw strop clipped to the side gear loop and the saw clipped up to a caritool, so the saw is always hanging off my side. never found it to be much of an issue really. not sure what the point of the tiny d loops on the leg straps is. Although I have used them occasionally for clipping spare slings to on big rigging jobs. I also went through a stage of keeping a small snap gate on there and would clip the rigging line to it when moving out to a branch, kept it out of way quite nicely
  7. Log barron, my dads got one of those kane low loaders like in your first pic, really solid well built piece of kit. bet it goes well behind the fast trac
  8. Either brash mat or a ton bag filled with rankings/sawdust works well
  9. Just a distil but tied real short to minimise sit back, works pretty well for srt or ddrt, to be honest it's more often that I switch from double to single rather than the other way round that said my preferred method for srt is to tie off to my final anchor with a figure 8 tied to an anchor ring choked to my line. Saves having anything else hanging in the tree, then when I'm finished I return to my anchor, take off the rope wrench, clip the figure 8 straight into my hitch climber an descend double rope, Sounds a faff, but it's actually pretty simple and quick
  10. In west London at the moment, but the job I need it for is in Shropshire
  11. Thanks for that, what's the longest bit you've used in one? As I need to drill the full width of the stump
  12. Anyone used one of these? https://www.frjonesandson.co.uk/products-page/machines/augers-drills1/stihl-bt45-wood-drill/ Got a strange job in the new year where I need to drill through 25" stumps and need to know if this is man enough?
  13. Yikes! Figured it would be quite a bit, must have been a big job to justify it. Think I'd use it at every available opportunity too!
  14. Cool, I like the idea, I'm sure it's one of those tools you can manage without but once you have you find all sorts of uses for it. What sort of rope you using in that? How much was it if you don't mind me asking?
  15. Oops! Looks a good set up though, are you lifting that to load it on a truck? Is it a bit overkill for pretensioning then? Is it a capstan style or some other means?
  16. Nice, with rope or cable? What will that lift? Any chance of some pics of it in action?!
  17. Thought you might say that as soon as I posted it! How much are they again? ...
  18. That said it does look the business!
  19. I don't think the Aztec blocks are mid line attachable on there own? and again not 16mm, and the whole Aztec pulling set up would completely befuddle some of the guys I work with!
  20. Always a big fan of the Bosch professional range, well built and seem to take some abuse, same can be said for makita though
  21. 3 of us got £20 each yesterday and last week we managed to walk away with about £75 worth of whisky each! Apparently the guy gets given it lots and doesn't like it, fine by us!
  22. I think if the omni was 16mm I'd definitely get one as it's much more multipurpose, trouble is I've got plenty of pulleys for redirects just wanted something idiot proof for pretensioning the line, so figured the stein coupled with a mechanical ascended would haves worked quite well. How did you bend it?
  23. Isn't the rock exotica omni for 13mm ropes though?
  24. The 461 is epic, run mine with a 25" and oversized dogs, it's being used daily coppicing over stood alder at the mo and flys through full bar length stuff without bogging down at all. I now alders soft but still a very satisfying saw to use. Not used it in the tree yet, but used a 441 plenty which are a similar weight with no problems, nicely balanced.
