  1. stick a bit of spider web on the cut, stop the bleeding (natural heamostatic dressing)
  2. unless a police cordon, there is nothing to stop anyone entering a cordoned off area, there is no legislation for idiots, all the police can do is charge him with a public order offence( nusiance behaviour)
  3. your doing a grand job hedgesparrow, you should be proud of yourself
  4. Tree Munky, I think you just "hit the nail right on the head", the FC are in a tizzy, cos the wont have enough manpower, they've put all there faith in harvesters and mechanical clearing, and surprise surprise, most of the plantations that are coming on stream cant be clearfelled mechanically, its to steep, or to wet, or to inaccesable , and the machinery cant get in. they know there going to have to use manpower, but dont want to admit it so they've started to try and get folk "trained" up, but there not going to get the experience....fu@k them, there plans are coming back to bite them on the ass
  5. not used one with a chipper, but have run various bits of pto driven kit on the front of my mog instead of the back, just got to watch the lengths of the drive shafts, and be carefull about who's reverser box you use, there not all created the same!!!!!
  6. everyone seem to forget one thing here, to get a job, first the jobs have got to be there....they are not...there are more workers than jobs, and its going to get worse, the other thing is benifit isnt a luxury, its a right, why do you think you pay nationall insurance, the clue is in the name... its your own money your getting back, the theiving bastards are trying to con the working man in this country at every turn, and seem to be getting away with it
  7. it is nearly impossible to get a sharp edge on carbide, its designed for cutting all the "crap" stuff, a freshly sharpened normal chain, and a touch up whenever it needs it, nothing akward about oak
  8. no politician of any party should ever be allowed to even think about starting a conflict unless he, or she, is willing to stand with the frontline troops
  9. well said horselogger, you hit the nail right on the head, fisa has been set up by a few, who are out to try and dictate who will or will not work in the forestry industry, there are enough off us out there to tell them to go take a running jump, If we all stick together and tell them we are not going to jump through there hoops and nobody cuts for them, they will have to back down
  10. good timber for inside work, not that good outdoors
  11. have you actually looked at the price of a good scythe, thats a hell of a lot of strimmer fuel, and you need to decide on your blade style as well. I was shown how to use one many many years ago and must have cut acres of blow grass and thistles in my youth, now its all done with a quad and mini topper, the old skills are all being lost
  12. its a tractor, 20 mph irrespective of what wheels and tyres are on it, or your breaking the law....when will tractor drivers start and learn this
  13. logosol is a commercial chainsaw mill, there used all over the globe in commercial aplications
  14. I remember someone at the arbshow at radley last year with a large cone splitter on a 360, but as to who it was ...doh.. cant remember who, somebody out there must remember
  15. ps sorry to hijack your thread a bit Big J, hope you accept my humble apology
  16. hey difflock, did you have a good holiday!, the forresian is almost stripped now, just the basic rack framing left, all the "extra" stuff is gone, looks naked now, another couple of evening shifts will see only the chassis left, the two saw arbors will live again, theres already a plan forming for them...lol..some mad processor thing
  17. big J, running with the stihl pmx chains Im only getting a 6.5 mill kerf, and like you cutting some real nice pippy oak today, with no deflection on the knots, and the wood will finish with a sanding, not even require a pass through the planner, chain preperation is the key!, Im still looking at bandmills, but till someone comes up with one running at least a 3" wide band, I'll still be concerned about blade deflection over imperfections in the structure of the timber, ive seen to many ripples caused by seemingly nothing, an 1/8 to be planned off each face kind of defeats the 2mm kerf a little bit, does it not. Yes the chainmill is slower, but its portability is its big advantage for me, I can get it into places I could never get a bandmill into and get some stunning timber that would normally end up as firewood. I'm waiting with interest to see your new mill in action and would love to come through and see it for real
  18. you'll find if the site has been earmarked for development, all the tree rules go out the window......developers money talks big with the planning departments, if he wants it cleared , and theres no restrictions get it done before the nimbys get in
  19. if you intend to screw anything into the oak treee, you better make it good quality stainless steel, the tannin in the oak with destroy steel in short shrift, look at any wire or staples in field oaks, not much left after a few years, compartmetilised, and big "blue-black" stains up the timber
  20. its a brown field site, get it cleared and cleaned pronto, its a paying job.
  21. so skyhuck, no chain rotation, no bar flips, no checking of the sprocket or drive links, all the checks you do when you rotate between your 2 or 3 chains for each saw, maximise the life of chains bars and sprockets, run 3 chains in rotation, if nothing else youve got spares on site should you damage one
  22. and unlike an alaskan, it doesnt produce knackered backs...lol
  23. its like a lucas or a peterson, It produces dimensional timber...end of
  24. not for me, mill has been moved and set up for tomorows job, 4 large oaks to be milled into boards for furniture and signage use, and 2 smaller pippy oak butts as well
  25. Im not arguing against qualifications, just the way they want to keep trying to force the renewal issue on us, ultimatly at the end of the day there is no legal requirement for any ticket, only the fact that certain goverment bodies would like you to have them......no puwer, loler , and all the rest DO NOT SPECIFCLY STATE YOU MUST HAVE A CERTAIN TICKET, just be qualified , and recommend certain ticket issuing bodies, until the training and certifing of this industry becomes legislated like car driving there will always be those trying to take advantage of the training side of it. At the moment there are too many variables to a std of training , yes its written down what you must do, but different instructors and assesors have different ideas of how it should be applied. an instructor should have at least 10 years cutting experience before he starts training, and an assesor, have a couple of years as an instructor as well. Ive seen too many instructors still wet behind the ears passing on "skills" they've learned out of a book, many a time while collecting timber in various woods I've seen some "iffy" practices being taught as being the right way. Having over 30 years of cutting everything from willow stalks to very large trees all over the world, it galls me to sometimes having a youngster with little or no "real world" experience trying to tell me "thats wrong, youve got to do it this way"....no im not an old wont listen to new ideas, I was taught "your never to old to learn", and yes I will listen to new ideas and ways, but safety and issues thereof have not changed, and I doubt they ever will
