  1. Hi Tom, What is your preferred option, working in various woodlands as a contractor/freelance operative or taking on one or two woodlands/an estate and making a long term project of them? Have you got any start up capital beyond what you have already spent? What were you doing before?
  2. Nice one Silky! Quality of mind is EVERYTHING. It is the filter through which all our experiences are lived. We don't see things as they are, we see things as WE are. Get the mind right and everything slots peacefully into place. Happy new year to you!
  3. Just to clarify: You believe that "people who feel bad for the homeless are all in favour of unlimited immigration"?
  4. Was getting critically low on spaghetti hoops. It was venture out into society or starve. Was hoping no one would see me.
  5. Interesting stuff. I think we grossly underestimate the pivotal role that luck plays in all our lives. There is a lot of talk of 'bad choices' but it is not at all clear that we understand the mechanics of choices, and as far as I can see there is certainly no evidence of free will being involved. Give some people some 'no strings attached' good luck and the results can be dramatic.
  6. You could PM Alec Gunner (agg221). He is a genius and has experimented with different methods of home produced char. Beau (Woodworks) has also been doing some very interesting work. Alec's company set up some instruments on my retort kiln, measuring the composition of the gasses released during pyrolysis. Apparently they can be used for running engines and stuff. Way above my pay grade!
  7. As openspaceman says, there is also the potential that it could 'lock up' carbon for significant periods of time. Lots more research needed though.
  8. Since when have you let affordability influence your machinery buying choices??
  9. Ha Ha! Yes, that's about par for the course.
  10. 8mins 20secs, pfff. I could hold a plank for an hour or two, no problem.
  11. Good work Holmes. It was 95 or 96, can't remember now. Environmental Biology. Got a bit too chemically curious towards the end of my second year and made it no further. Hendrefoilan for year one, then Uplands year two.
  12. If you pay close enough attention to your thoughts you discover that we are all completely insane. We only tend to worry about the people who turn the thoughts into words.
  13. We had a herd of Highlands, sheep and a few pigs too, but you're right, most of the time the carrots stayed where you put them.
  14. In reality, after a failed attempt at pretending to be clever at university I was a fruit and vegetable farmer for 7 years. Then I made ice-cream for 6 years, before trying my hand at woodland management.
  15. I spent 35 years sneaking teaspoons into people's washing up bowls just before they poured all the water out. Then went into forestry.
  16. A man needs a maid: Neil Young (Misogyny) Welcome to the Jungle: Guns n' Roses (Cultural appropriation) Mr Blobby: Mr Blobby (Fat Shaming)
  17. Looks like you picked up some good advice on safe work positioning.?
  18. He's Scottish, God only knows what's been going down the pipes!
  19. Enough of these trivial matters. There is a devastating force ripping apart the fabric of our top athletes. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/darts/46245993
  20. I'll take another Super Soaker (bolt action), and a dozen pea shooters when you're ready Felix.
  21. It's important to bear in mind all the wars that haven't happened, and to appreciate why this is.
