If I'm honest....... Yes I do mate, for several reasons already stated in previous posts, the main think I like most of all is having a system that's exactly the same length as a hitch climber and hitch setup without anything above it!! Thanks Reg, The video it's self I really didn't put a lot of thought into its self really, the only thing I thought about was getting the right photos with the right videos, the rest were just thrown in at random except the last photo of Dan Curtis in the big cedar. And yes I also agree on the song, it's a great tune but I think I could of choose something a little more original, it's always nice to here others views even better if its constructive criticism, as you know I don't really make a lot of videos but maybe I should?? So I've been on the HH now for several weeks and I really can't fault it, I'm using the standard Recommended Half VT we beeline hitch cord on Yale kernmaster I've used it in the dry and the wet and its still as responsive, I will say though obviously being steel if it does get wet get it dry ASAP, really pleased with how it works the tree. Once all that is under load from the dead weight of an injured climber there's no way you could pull any slack from the system to unclip anything, also looking at the way the rope is running through the 8 it looks as if that will lock up on its self causing total lock up, or is it just me?? I know a couple of lads from here have discussed possibly doing video demos of rescue methods while in SRTWP. Having a read through a few threads there's very little about these and hardly any photos of the setups. So I was working for a firm today that had never seen anything like it so found a little time this morning to go through a simple method of rescue should the unthinkable happen!!! So if you have any pictures of any different types of base anchors or rescue base anchors then feel free to post. So here's a simple little base anchor for smaller trees if you have a long rope like me, I don't want to be pulling through a huge tail of rope every time I reroute myself, so with this little simple trick you can make a 50m line any length you want by simple using a sling in this case I've used a DMM multi-sling, firstly a pulled enough line through on my work side of the rope then tied an inline knot such as this figure of 8, ( you can use any inline knot) the clipped the bina into the knot, simple and very affective and saves buying another shorter rope This can also be made into a rescue anchor buy clipping another climbing line into the inline knot then cut the multi-sling not the rope My next one is a little more gear intensive but very affective. Using a friction hitch such as this VT and a figure of 8 tell help reduce the friction on the hitch when using it to lower the climber. I've used some yalex with a XS DMM bat plate for the attachment points as the main anchor, but you can use anything that's safe and rated to hand. The inline knot such as the alpine butterfly is a back up should the hitch slip at all, but if tied, set, and dressed right then it really shouldn't move at all. Job from a couple of weeks ago, been meaning to put it up on here but forgot all about it!! 2 decayed-ish Lombardy poplars the biggest being around the 80ft mk, I started taking photos after I came down for a drink and the first one had already been done. I climbed up on my spikes and strop on the back one first, I didn't really fancy throw bagging my line in as a wanted to get a feel for how bad she was, so as I went up I stripped out anything that didn't need rigging and established a top anchor for myself and the rigging gear about 20ft from the tips, so around the 60ft mk. So after getting ready and getting a feel for how the tree was moving I decided to get the top out first, as the wind was picking up fairly bad and the movement in the stem wasn't great, this also allowed me to compensate anything I was going to rig when I jumped across to dismantle the other poplar. So the first picture is just the remaining back tree with its top removed, you can probably just spot the rigging block at the top. A little closer with the second smaller tree already on the floor. The felled butt of the smaller one, the fence backed on to a closed footpath and both trees where leaning quite heavily towards to neighbouring houses. Couple of pictures of the first smaller stump, although the decay doesn't look quite as bad there, the smaller tree still had the height at about 65/70ft with quite a bit of wind sail in the canopy The first decay shot of what I'll call the rear of the bigger poplar, from a guess the rot had started from an old pollard/topping cut. Just a picture if the setup So one of the old topping cuts on the big tree, which I'm pretty sure had lead both of the trees to a similar sticky end Rigging down the last few bits of brash, you probably could of felled a few big bits out but with the wind quite strong and poplar having the tendency to fly where it wants then rigging was a better option to minimise damage, and yes the trees were in bad health but I was happy and felt safe enough. So just a couple more, me chogging down the stem and a couple of views, all down on the floor by 12:10pm all ready for dinner Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk Mobile App
