  1. Hey guys, I was hoping someone could help me. My 281 has lost spark. Has anyone got a coil and trigger unit for a 281 for sale or trade by any chance? Obliged, Wes
  2. FTFY BTW, this is the guy I got those numbers from: [ame] [/ame] wyk
  3. Big bore is 77cc's ish. Here is a big bore ported a bit hot on a 2165: 18", 8 pin, stock chain, in a maple that's been sitting a while. [ame] [/ame] If it is a BB kit, I would highly suggest using a meteor piston and caber rings. The kits piston I have seen had more tolerance than I care for.
  4. VXL tends to chatter a lot. Presumably, the XL means xtra long(cutters). The shorter a cutter top plate is, the smoother the cut, and the faster the cut. The only advantage to a longer top plate is life span of the cutter, but it puts the life where you can't really use it well - towards the back of the cutter. A terrible, terrible design.
  5. Had the 281 apart for minor repairs. Might as well port it mildly. She really has enough grunt, I just want a touch more response and top end. Yes, that's the typical state of my work desk.
  6. ANd then there's the photo up above...
  7. Spud - where would you tap a 281 cylinder for a decomp? Or is it possible? I was thinking the top is the only place, a la STIHL 046. Even after opening up this cylinder, adding a factory gasket, and removing one ring, the compression is stupid on my 281xp. And I really don't like running it with one ring.
  8. The last 135 I used cut well above it's weight. It's plasticky, but it cuts.
  9. I could certainly be wrong, but I could have sworn I saw Shindaiwa 600's in Japan before the merger. Thus my assumption. But I have been wrong before, if I am not mistaken... This is what I was seeing previously: VS
  10. If you have a perfectly fine 346XP, I would hold on to it with a death grip and service it religiously. Husqvarna have never, and likely will never make such a machine again. Having said that, though it didn't used to mean it in this lineage, I wonder if the S means it is strato now? The lid doesn't seem any higher to me, tho. Hrm. I'm very fond of this series of Shindaiwa products, and think it's one of the best products ever under Kioritsu/Yamabiko's roof. I am curious to see how they sort out their 70cc line in the future.

    Rapeseed. No problems. [ame] [/ame]
  12. That chinese saw has a lot of Dolmar profile to it...

    Project 064

With a hiway kit, you can often leave the base gasket out and get better numbers on port timing numbers in the bargain. Assuming you have the clearance. I would love an 064! Nice goin!
  14. I actually prefer the tensioner in the front. It means I can remove and clean the clutch cover if needs be without removing or slacking the B&C, and is much easier to hang large long bars on a saw with. It helps more on the larger saws, though. And it should look a lot like the Shindaiwas. It IS a Shindaiwa, afterall. This line started life as a 452, if I recall. Then became the 500/502 series SHinnies and Echos, then again a 452. They recently came out with the 501 series which appears to be on the same chassis, but with that big a top end, I can only guess it is a strato version. Same chassis for them all far as I can tell. So the Echo 500P is a bit of a hotrod at 49cc on this chassis. It is the lightest 50cc saw out there., coming in at the same weight the Stihl MS241 is.

  16. Good lookin Echo, Andrew. Now put it to work and get some photos!
  17. Some course instructors only allow 50cc saws for the 30/31. You may want to check on that as well.
  18. Is that low pro? Must be a screamer now. I use it on my 241 w/18" bar a farmer gave me a while back. I find for the volume of firewood I do that low pro simply doesn't last long enough before needing sharpening. But is is handy for laurel, etc. Your 5105 is on it's way to you this Monday. Sorry about the delay, it's been crazy here. I still think a carb rebuild would help her. But she seems to run fine most the time.
  19. I'll replace the needle bearings and port that lap top for 150 quid. 200 and I'll add a monitor mod.
  20. I've been running rapeseed for years. No gumming, no strange smells(aside from a slight doughnut smell with some woods), and my bars last well. I also certainly do not baby my saws.
  21. Took me more than a week and over 100 euro to replace the carb on my 241cm.
  22. This is Shavey's 420 = 16" 325 VS the 12" or so 'low pro'/picco you see in the previous vid(and it's running very rich for break in, too): [ame] [/ame]
