  2. I take it most jobs you will have access to power ? As if you do a bostich nailer and a (good)compressor will out perform out-last and out perform a paslode or any electric nailer profit wise as well .Just remember cheaper is not always the best option !But if you go the air way remember a inline oiler ,pays dividends. There ends the sermon....

  13. From the local paper.... 3 Chimney fires A porch at a Nairn flat was damaged by fire after the occupants tried to light a living room fire using a can of petrol. Three appliances from Nairn and Inverness attended the incident in Harbour Street just before 7.30pm yesterday. Firefighters used two hose reel jets and four sets of breathing apparatus. The fire was reported as being under control by 8.24pm. It is understood no one was injured. Firefighters were also called out to two chimney fires in the Inverness area yesterday. The first at 12.40pm was in the Struy area. Appliances from Inverness, Beauly and Cannich went to the scene but the fire was out on arrival. The second was in the Farr area at 6.40pm. One appliance from Inverness attended the fire which was reported to be out by 7.30pm

  15. Water in a hot metal stove or fire grate! Not the best of ideas ,never mind the instantaneous steam burns to arms and face, let alone the damage ,i would avoid that like the plague
  16. Lining my chimney and insulating the liner with vermiculite was best move i've made so far IMHO ,as to chimney fire i keep a pound of bicarbonate of soda in kitchen cabinet just incase, learned that from a old timer over in Stowe Vermont. He lived in log cabin and burnt only wood, thro it on a roaring fire give off CO2,heat takes it up chimney and hopefully puts out the creosote on fire. For £2.00 piece of mind you cant go wrong just incase. Just dont listen to the fools who say a good chimney fire once a year saves sweeping it ,as that what grandpa did ! A creosote chimney fire will crack a masonry flue
  17. Honest as a dropout myself the older i get, the more i regret not finishing my degree,if you can only tough it out and get some qualification, thens the time to diversify or change life course. Just having the BA,Bsc,MBA,LLB....after your name opens so much many doors and your earning potential is so much greater, also any chances of emigrating will be severley hampered with no degree. I never heard anyone say they we happier by dropping out only regrets Please mate stick with it ,lifes not always greener
  18. Why not put a Freedom of Information request into the LA asking how many consents have been granted in last two years for both arb association approved, and non arb association approved contractors ? Then publish results here and discuss with local MP. Trust me it works
  19. I would also point out to the editor,he mentions"Paying for Water"well where's his average of the moisture content readings, taken with a calibrated meter . And I Say And His average log height and breadth,i once paid for a birch 50p for a 24" birch log ,but was too big for fire as it was 25 feet long........... The man's a clown but a dangerous one with the potential to harm your business, that's why i always tick the legal cover on my house insurance,oh and a claim on that is not classed as a claim on the house cover

  23. Hi Folks I value the mixed opinions one here and have learnt a lot as a "lurker" that's helped me SO time you gave your honest opinions back i'm about to get paid off .... seven years and i've help'd grow the business.......Two sides to every story.... Long &short is i work for one of the licensable business(only 4 in UK),seven years nearly eight ,so they want rid of me ,for political/monetary/we can use agency people I'm offered Either sign a compromise agreement with 1k more than statutory min, and inherit all tax and ni liability's option1 (me and famliy could use the cash) Or Take the bare minimum and not be gagged, but risk them not paying me,and being happy with myself . Thoughts please
