  1. There is some cheap gear out there today that is far better than what i had when I started in the late 70s, the choice today is far greater than the hand full of manufactures we had for rids n reels, northwestern and conoflex blanks to build in to rods ourselves and reels it was either Mitchell or ABU, TBH I have been looking on market place and there is some cheap but decent gear on there and its same with shooting stuff, people go once or twice with a mate and then spend a small fortune on a full set up then it piss,s down next 3 trips and that is the end of there fishing shooting career, rods you want to be looking at 12ft 2.5 - 3lb TC reels there us so many today like shimanno Abu etc FB market place you will find something nit to far from yourself at good money,,
  2. Here and present in the glorious 🌞🌞
  3. very much so, she made no noise till i crept in to kitchen about half 7 and still curled up asleep but she did have a busy day sunday running around with my grand kids,,,
  4. Up and here but I don't have a choice ATM some one all ways wants feeding and now she out in the glorious sunshine,,
  5. Bentiful place that and it's a while since I was there, used to get on it fishing a fair bit once up on a time, looks great today ,,
  6. Very much so, she is only just 12 wk old and just full of mischief ATM but that's labs for you, she learns quick and she gets about 3 retieves with the small dummy a day and she loves it,, it is very satisfying to own a dog that is eager to learn,,
  7. Morning all,, Not much chance of me being in bed as got this retrieving machine to look after,,
  8. I don't know where the last 2 wk have gone ?? It's been busy here trying to keep up with Isla who seems to be a lot faster than I am,, however all is going well with her now sitting and waiting to be told to get her tea,, she is retrieve mad and she has cottoned very quickly to a bunch of keys rattling in the door lock, she just comes running and sits waiting to go out,, she been very quiet at nights, but last wk end we had Purdey here from Friday to Monday and all they did was fight and squabble sat and sun hence my lawn looked like it had been ploughed, Monday we was out shooting Isla in car and purdey in the hide abd a good day all round fur all of us,,
  9. I have never bought from FR Jones in all the years I been in the job, and yes I agree with 100% but unfortunately it didn't work out for them,, I try to encourage the younger generation to use there local dealer as muchvas possible, last few saws I have locally bought and have only been 30 - 40 quid more than off the net, but when and if it goes tits up under warranty it gets sorted with in a couple of days at the most ,,,
  10. Just support your local dealer by ordering and buying from them, OK it might be a few quid more than buying from the big boys but as the saying goes, Use it or loose it,, i choose to support my local dealers due to being looked after when i need something doing ASAP,,
  11. A bit late but here at last, If you need a note of my Mum for being late i will get one 😂
  12. Took purdey back this evening and took Isla along as well she been made a fuss of by every one but she don't half keep an eye on me, I walked across the garden with Jamie (the vets husband) and Isla wernt long before she came scampering across the lawn, I will post on her progress which I don't think will be slow, she a very bright pup,,
  13. Oh well it is purdeys last day of her holiday with me today ,😐, its been just shy of 7 wk and I think we been out shooting about a dozen times and this girl has had a ball, we have shot just over a 1000 pigeons and a few crows n Jack days, she has done well at finding and retrieving all most every thing we have shot. But last Sunday I committed to the purchase of a new lab pup, and WTF have I let myself in for ?? Pup is just 10 wk old and a typical lab pup in to every thing it shouldn't be🤣 she been here since Wednesday and this morning she has discovered the pond so she been in there 3 times now ,, she is very well bred with a fair few Scotish dogs on her pedigree so please meet, Isla,, We was out shooting yesterday and when we was setting up purdey had a very serious look on her face when Isla was investigating a crow decoy, the look just said hey what's that little dog doing, that's my job,, 🤣
  14. You read what you wrote again ?? then think English channel, dingy,s ?? so yes it does matter about the whites being driven out,, only one man ever spoke a true word in politics in 1969 and no one believed him !! and look where we are now ,,,
  15. The signal crayfish grow much larger than our native white clawed crayfish and the signal crayfish is much more aggressive and nearly driven our native crayfish to the brink of extinction, the signal where brought to our island as a food source and farmed and like the mink we had escapes that thrived very well in the wild, and yes they are good eating as they are basically just a mine lobster,,
  16. Simer down a bit, read the original post regarding a 16"bar NO one mentioned a 18 or 20" bar only you,,
  17. I dont think any one will be going round with a tape measure, so just crack on and say nowt, i never known a trainer check bar lengths,,
  18. There is a few things in this country that should not be here at all , mink from north America, Grey Squirrels from America, signal cray fish from America, all 3 have caused problems with our native wild life,, there are a few other things that should not be in the UK as well but sorry i cant mention them as i would probably get locked up,, The signal crayfish make very good eating just use the tails, we used to catch loads on Loch Ken and have a boil up, shelled off back in to a warm pan with a bit of butter and kayam pepper give em a good shake and get themall coated in butter and pepper, quite tasty
  19. 20cm 25cm and the odd bigger one could all be done with a 6 - 8 tonne machine with ease, i have done many areas of stumps that size with a 2,7tonne machine with fixed grab,, no matter how big the machine is, it is only as good as the operator working it,
  20. Is there not a fuel cut off tap/leaver on the tank ? if not just rem=new the inline filter, all fuel contains a percentage of water and on hot days it seperates and builds up in the fuel tank, i just had a dumper pack up and the fuel filter was full of water, emptied it out and off we go again,,
  21. thats just a common in line filter just put a new one on, but before you put the fuel line on the in feed side check that there is a good flow of fuel,, if not check fuel tap on tank as it could be partly blocked,,
  22. That clear filter as described will probably have water in it ?? and it sounds as if there could be a gause filter in the tank or a in line filter tucked away some where just clean them all out or renew,,
  23. Well the vet appeared today as arranged and was here for approx an hr, Purdey did not make the fuss I thought she would of made over her owner,, we had a brew and chatted about Purdey and the time spent here with me, before I could ask I was offered if I wanted to pick this dog up and take her out working it will not be a problem, them came the question of would I have Purdey for another 2 wk as the vet is looking after a friend's dig that has just had surgery on a rear leg so needs to be rested ,, eh yes she can stop here no probs, so we had a quick look out late this aft after the rain stopped and bagged 2 pigeons,, so I am quite happy ATM as my bew best mate has obtained a holiday extension 😀
  24. Well the last month has sure gone fast, my lodger goes home tomorrow and I will surely miss her, its been great having Purdey here and really inspired me to up my game at looking for a new pup, me and purdey have had a great time out training and some days in the hide pigeon shooting we have had some good days with the best day being last saturday with a mixed bag of pigeons and crows at 224, this was a big day for a young dog so she was held back a fair bit but when it came time to pick up i let her do her bit, fed her her breakfast Sunday morning then she went straight back to bed and snoring like a gud un after 10 mins, well I am sure she will miss me and all the time spent in the great out doors, but I am sure she will be coming back soon,,
  25. A lot of stuff in that auction went for peanuts and TBH they would of got better prices on a car boot sale !!!
