  1. The first settilers manage our tree stock because that soon realised that they had to go father to get fuel. The romans food for the army then came boat making timber framed houses and the industral reverlution and trees cut to make steal. We still have one of the best stock of old woodlands we build roads and cities and manage the trees in and around them life goes on
  2. Right on Monkey Space is important too in France the forests are growing at a faster rate than they are being cut down and they are seen in a diffrent light and managed in a way that shock the English but it is a part of thier cultural history
  3. Someone told me tree surgeons are often very good at working with trees but not very good business men and I think most start out doing the job for the fun of it and less for the money. Now with kids house blaa blaa I am looking at the end of the month $$$$$$$$$.
  4. Even scientists are not unknown for making clams that are not true to advance their career. Look at the debate on global worming or drugs classification. Do you really think that any other industry is different. I think the arb industry is less devious than most. Our landscape is a culture landscape sculputured by man the tree feller. It is historical record. Pollarded trees cut to make houses (burnum beaches) hedge rows (the enclosure act) we leave the mark of 21 century man.
  5. When I started I did work for a week free as a newbie. I know the boss charged the full rate for me and I gained nothing from it. I didn't expect a pay packet I knew I wasn't worth it but I knew I was worth more than nothing. Little things like that have a strange habit of giving of a nasty smell.
  6. Started out on three strand using both ends of the rope and when I see the stuff some take up a tree I cant believe it. I tried loads of new stuff and changed little but a strop or lanyard is one thing that changes everything.
  7. Would any one do the first couple of trees for a client for free in the hope they would get the job and then maybe discuss the price after wards. I mean that puts the boot on the other foot.
  8. I second that tommer9
  9. done can we have feedback please
  10. He cant have very much self respect if he going to work for a week and not get payed. There was a time when I could have ticked most of those boxs and would have enjoyed it too. But at the end of the day I go to work to earn money.
  11. The yanks seem to think the ethanol mix used in the new petrols. eats the oil mix and is not good for small engines
  12. OR get a swing blade (peterson or lucas) no hydraulics needed or expensive edging machines both the Peterson and lucas are worth a look. Never come across anything too big yet, although 6m is the max on length. Small stuff is a pain though
  13. Lucas and peterson dont need hydraulics . Just cut 10 oak fence posts for a client. Cut them straight out of the log.
  14. What about bad backs. I have been climbing since 19 I am now 40 odd and have never had any white finger but its the ground work that kills my back.
  15. when you spend six months choosing a logo and end up with a tree
  16. I havent yet met a tree surgeon that hasnt started from nothing and had to do things that are not quite correct to put food on thier plate and and advance thier company. I would not have chosen to be a tree surgeon if I was risk advers and would definatly not chosen to be self employed and I wouldnt have taken down that tree over the house last week. British history is full of people that have tacken riskes to make ther lives better and those around them (Shackloton would never have gone to the south pole with hse and insurance on his back) In England HSE organisations has built up a hole and very powerfull industry around them selfs of the backs of people that are trying to make a livving. BUT risk for risk sakes is stupid and samall people like you and me are easy picking (they havet the balls to go for big companys). I get on with what I have to do. I would nt put my self on the internet doing things that are bad for my reputation industry ect and dangerous
  17. I got a cheep generic copy 5 ton pull. Very heavy may be smaller would have been enough . I use it for all the above and pulling broken down plant up the trailer. Put the cable in an old tier
  18. Dont worry to much about the up grade if your using it your self. I been using chippers like that all my life and so is the rest of the world my new bandit comes like that.
  19. you darnt go to the toilet in the clients house because there will be more sawdust in the toilet than the garden and your t shirt is missing a sleeve.
  20. I have got nothing againts greenmech we had 15 of them when I worked for Glendale the old ones I think they had the lister peter engine. The chip was not as fine as most, one was rolled and one had a rope go through it and the after sales service was good. Their just not on my list
  21. Hy Woodpicker have you had a tunnisenn before or do you just not like them. I mean a little more info would help me make a better choice. When spending 18k you need a to informed. You can PM me if you think that would be better. [email protected]
  22. Well I think I am going to buy one I hope I am not going to wish I had gone for the Tunnissen. Hay Dean if it chucks stuff out that far I bet it dosent get blocked up on connifer often.
  23. I am coming up from a TW 125 and had a demo of a Bandit 65. I thought it was a bit slow left a pile of chip underneath got a bit stuck on dead wood(had the new bottom roller on it). The TW dose chip small stuff nice and quick But it took wood of all shapes and size never looked like it was under any strain and looked like a good solid no frills investment for life:thumbup1:. The tw wizzess along but I am always waiting for the bang I didnt think I was going to like it no one talks about the little 65 much I have a Tunnissen 190 in my sites. Is it a case of the old tryed and tested or has the 65 been left behind by newer machines. Any one
