  1. I dream of a world where the bigname charities are run by those retired on fat pensions from business, self made tycoons or even, cough cough, retired on fat pensions Government types. And smaller charities by those furthur down the prestige tree. For the honour and prestige alone. End of. Unfortunately with most charities I see touted, my first thought is "whats in it for them". And all TV appeals must include if there were any donations made by the "star" and/or any fees or "expenses" paid to the star (he)artfully playing on our emotions. greed greed greed.
  2. While we remain without grandchildren, I by times muse that a nuclear Armageddon would be just the tonic "our" much abused Earth needs right now. Though I fear if any humans survived, they would simply repeat our mistakes, while telling themselves it would be different this time. Sigh.
  3. Bloody Hell! I feel like Superman after watching that stirring drama. WTF has TV come too.
  4. Bugger those bloody storms depressing firewood prices. Typical!
  5. Bugger, lost a wordy post. Anyway kinda need fair mates rates. Don't wish to poke the bloke. Dont wish to part too soft either. Hmmm
  6. Going to have some next week, an a couple o local blokes pestering me. I don't want to be seen to be "poking" one of them, nor do I wish to bend over and expose my arse for a rogering.
  7. I followed a very long running thread by an absolute nutter on the greenbuildingforum, who was completely unreasonable about a neighbour with a wood burning stove. He may have had some grounds, but was, at least in my opinion, entirely unreasonable in his expections or demands.
  8. I am waiting for Toyota to introduce a hybrid diesel pickup or 4*4 using the same technology as the Prius/RAV4. Based on rumours that Toyota were thinking about re-introducing a diesel Land Cruiser for the US market(based on some particular patent application or such, but perhaps merely hysterical speculation) Anyway THAT would be my dream truck.
  9. Unless it has changed, even a private individual, building a house to live in, can reclaim the VAT. Very common over here in N. I. But not if renovating, which is a shame.
  10. But! With properly adjusted overrun brakes, the vehicle brakes should NOT be doing any more work, feather the pedal, wait the split second for the hitch to overrun, then feel the trailer brakes kick in. Before properly applying the vehicle brakes as necessary. Anyway even the 30 or 40 year old MB slushbox auto had an engine braking function. I have towed possible in excess of 3500kG with zero fuss, but not down steep grades. But I would trust MB engineers to have it sussed if I needed to. And towing with an auto is a dream, even though I was more than merely competent with a clutch/manual trans. Marcus
  11. A superb, if disquieting analysis, I 100% agree with everything he says. Thank you Macpherson.
  12. Party gate was obviously so MUCH more important I suppose.
  13. So Therefore, a liter of gasoline has 8.76 kW/hr of energy in it, which is a much more manageable number.27 Sept 2021 And since we are getting 45mpg for every 40kW/hr(4.54 *8.76kW/hrs) of petrol =bloody hell= nearer to 1 mile per kW/hr how can this be correct?
  14. Followed this thread with interest. Not likely to be buying a BEV since we bought the Toyota only 6 month ago. But interested(and if the bloody Skoda had not shit hersel prematurely I might have considered a BEV, a couple of years hence) Anyway, how is MPGe calculated? Tried doing some research having seen silly high like 100 to 150 MPG figures being quoted. How is this possible? Since most of the electric generated is still subject to the first law of thermodynamics in respect of its generation with its inherent inefficiencies plus the transmission losses? Thoughts?
  15. Sorry David, but aged 62, and thus aging during a period of vast increases in health, wealth and living standards, I can only reluctantly conclude that there is zero danger of the masses becoming too intelligent despite their increased material comforts. From a lifetime of wryful rueful direct observation.
  16. Proper uncalled for brutal that is.
  17. Are you saying that you lot were earning so much, sans UK tax, such that HMRC found it necessary to write specific regulation just for younz? wow! Impressive.
  18. I dont know whether to laugh or cry.
  19. If this is the video I watched a while ago, it explains how this new canal will allow US Warships access to the Black Sea. Which the Russians regard as their pond, since a treaty of about 1923 which still stands, but will not apply to any new waterway, or so it could be argued. Guessing there will be loads of back channel(and pun fully intended) CIA funding for this project. Here in NI this would be regarded as a coat trailing stunt on a grand geopolitical scale.
  20. Hi Sur an am the dyslexic wan, so I am Sur.
  21. While Russia is focussed on the West, and China is focussed on the South China Sea, it clearly makes sense for the two of them to stand "back to back".
