  1. Hope you declared those mods to your insurer Predator?
  2. Above is an excellent example of the use of plain English. Good to see.
  3. Oddly enough he also had a really tasty David Brown crawler for sale at a very attractive price.
  4. Steve, to be really pedantic, your post title should have been. "Man dies going through woodchipper."
  5. Absolutely seconded. Not to disparage the unfortunate deceased. but as per the BC Logger on Ax Men. sometimes "one simply cannot fix stupid" marcus
  6. sigh, is daughters graduation on the 3rd July.
  7. My instant reaction was that some sort of sensor system should easily be available. I clicked on the link provided by the origionl poster. Clicked on a link on there from Morbark and ChipSafe? Operator Safety Shield | Morbark, Inc. there and so simple. marcus
  8. Hmmm, I could suggest asking to view:001_rolleyes: I will instead ask Rodney or Chris, who probably know of or sold most every Avant working in Ireland:biggrin: Marcus
  9. Our very sensible enshrined in writing rule in work is (local authority) a gift to the face value of a bottle of ordinary whiskey is acceptable, usually at Christmas. Owt else is simply corruption. I have managed to work within this rule for 30 years. I have been offered a brown envelope(once only) and gracefully but firmly declined. However from reps I hear the staff in my position in other Councils in NI (and they were named to me) demand a good "bung" for putting business a particular direction. Simply quite shameful. I do however understand this is not quite the issue being discussed here. PS Part of the Patton groups money problems were down to systemic/endemic graft and corruption and "back handers". From a roofing contractor was was braced for £1000.00 a week to be on/get work on a Patton's site, this by the site Foreman.
  10. And then charge him the FULL rate, same as you charge your private clients!
  11. Viking MB755KS SIMPLES MB 755 KS - 21? self-propelled professional mower with blade brake clutch. About £1,100.00+VAT OR perhaps an Etesia? Tried Honda, tried Kubota, hawk, spit, Pah! Cheers m
  12. And ALL fished from the local CA skip!! But Gulp! A full weeks fiddling/footering/festering and finally fabricating time. Yet the end result looks so bloody obvious I wonder why it took so long? I took Senior Managment for a spin down the lane, over some spalls (=coarse stones) and through shallow potholes and bunked her up over a 50mm raised edge. All without mishap. WhooHoo! Cheers M
  13. Perchance akin to the Army "Eager Beaver's" of the 1980's? Remember seeing them working at Bisley in 1982/1983 ish
  14. My treat, after accompaning Senior Management and the daughter round several gardens plus the RHS at Tatton. Any other worthwhile Arboreatums to put on MY list?? Anyway after "doing" Cornwall gardens a No of years ago and becoming very aware of the deficiencies of a push wheelchair, but not having the space to cart an electric buggy around. Voila! erm! bugger photos not forum ready sigh, back later. m
  15. I see your "Orec" Rabbit and raise you an "Etesia" Attila ride on brush cutter. Truely phenomonal, both in respect of traction from a 2WD, and also a healthy/insatiable appitite for wallsteads, along with the brush. cheers m
  16. Well doh! Ah nivver before realized wheels were round!
  17. I could not afford the Wheatbix to be able to handle that size of saw.:001_tt2:
  18. That crop of hay actually looks more the job for a sythe. With or without an engine. i.e. Either a Tyzac, or a proprietary metal blade in a brush-cutter, used with a sything technique. Only cut the stems once at ground level and let the grass fall sideways, to be raked/graiped up. Ideally then sold to Horsey people, at a priemium price,as Organic, traditionally made Hay.
  19. (i) Get a demonstration of how they are lit, our (& like many other cheaper) boiler only has 2 doors. Therefore Require to place kindling and finer bone dry firing down in the grate, and then quite akward to reach down in to light. And wait for that fire to get well established, before adding the main charge of logs. The better designed boilers have a third door to light through, which means the boiler can be pre-loaded with the full charge of logs, which will be warming up and therefore be easier to light the next day.(assuming the previous fire is out with no embers) Some manufacturers claim (but probably based on hardwood=Beech firing) that their boilers will retain hot embers for 24 hours, sufficient to re-kindle the next days load of firing. I suspect this would not work with Conifer firewood. (ii) Look for a boiler with a suction fan on the flue, this way it will draw any smoke out if the door is opened mid burn. Look at HOW the boiler tubes are accessed to be cleaned!!!(Turobulators aside) There are differences. Study up the ergonomic layout of your boilerroom set up. which way does the door open? Where will you bring the logs in. Have you room to keep a barrowful of logs in overning to be warming up to light the next day. etc etc etc marcus
  20. I presume the collection of spare parts is all is left of the 2nd/other one?
  21. They really are a "quart in a pint pot", the only quirk is the apparently odd/disembodied steering in reverse, with the drivers seat remaining in line with the loader arm, and the rear doing its own thing, off-side somewhere. really really disconcerting. I note Avant have now introduced a conventional artic steer set-up, but with slightly reduced payload, due to the different counterbalance geometry.
  22. A measure of how popular and useful our 640 Avant, is the speed with which it is racking up the hours. It was indeed expensive, but at the rate and multiplicty of use, worth it. Whew!
  23. tee hee my point exactly:001_tt2: PS John james Photo above was apparently taken in what here in NI we would refer to as merely a "wet slap". The width of the gateway, onto such a narrow track/lane/road would however be a flotation shod tractor defying obstacle. marcus
