  1. After much deliberation I figger Salvation Army type soup kitchens would achieve more, said soup to extend to stews and cassaroles and curries. Perhaps fresh vegetables could be supplied by all these Govt/Council sponsored inner city gardens? I simply know that I spend significently less in the pub, than many of those on lesser incomes(or indeed benefits), however I do NOT gamble or smoke. Unlike many smitten by this unholy trinity of expensive addictions. mth
  2. enlighten us then, re yer somewhat cryptic post above breffni?
  3. I had to drive away from a car park the other day to brake a tenner because all I had were the new coins. Did ye leave one tied to sommat as you drove away?
  4. If he declared £40.00, more likely to be nearer £80.00.
  5. :thumbup::thumbup:
  6. And there it was, the answer hiding in plain sight! So, Wow! Gary, thanks for that sublime insight. mth
  7. I reckon Trump must be some new kinda Idiot-Savant, with Special-Skillz. I got a handle on the Special-Idiot bit, but still trying to indentify the Savant-Skillz portion. mth
  8. Ah had "deduced" the "through and through" sawing bit Alec, but thanks, I am still getting the ould DB1490 screwed back together, to fetch the log back for milling. sigh! This being retired nonsense is proving to be wile hard work. cheers mth
  9. Thanks Alec, I will display my novice milling status (=virgin) by asking "through and through at 2.5"" means at 2.5" centres or 2.5" plus kerf? cheers mth
  10. Say 4.0m long, by 600mm dia, spalted a bit, & a shame to firewood it. considering trying to mill it on my as yet unassembled Logosol farmers mill:confused1: what thickness should I aim for, also I have no idea what use I will have for the sawn timber either. PS I will try and get photos up later today. mth
  11. I am still mulling buying a 2nd hand processor, for clean Sitka, I got the impression this was the time of year, post winter, individuals or firms changed machines. Probably dealing with Wilsons or Caladonian. Except I got no mechanism of handling the loose firewood produced, wheras the billets stack/bundle and are then easy mechanically handled. So still pondering. mth
  12. This is why a CAT is so named, as it was explained to me, i.e. Cable AVOIDANCE Tool, the 360 digger inevitably being a cable FINDING tool. SPOT the difference! cheers mth
  13. Sir and Sur!, or even perhaps Cur?(a world of difference, from my TA YO days) Nigger between black friends, as opposed to Nigger from a red-neck or "good ole boy" Even in that context the use of "boy" to address a black male. Or indeed harking back to the old Army charge of "dumb insolence", which made perfect sense, in certain circumstances. PS Here in NI "Black Bastard" used to be an insulting name for RUC Officers, being carried forward from the black uniformed RIC days, i.e. bugger all to do with skin colour! A funny old world int it!
  14. (i) Seperate Electric or Hydraulic powerpack (ii) 2 very heavy, hydraulically deployed outriggers,(with screw-in anchors?) for stability. (iii) On tracks for all terrain access. i.e. A modular approach, the same (hydraulic) powered stump grinder unit could then be used with breaker circuit off a suitable excavator. Or not!
  15. No Sir!, ah nivver wuz a crossdresser! despite wot you mighta heard, & I only wore the wifes favourite skimpy black knickers that once, i.e. when travelling by boat and train to Sandhurst for her passing out parade, and a fat lot of good that particular gambit did for me, 'er being too physically shagged to be interested in shagging! cheers mth P.S. A "hard" bargain, indeed Sur, it is every bit of that!:001_tt2:
  16. This is wot ah wuz gonna suggest, she should surely have a vested interest in protecting "her" tackle! P.S. Above advice based on my ongoing highly successful morning proposition "better shag me now in case I accidentally cut my cock off with the Chainsaw today".
  17. Gents, Being well pleased with my wee EX50 Kioti tractor. BUT I am getting proper jealous of all these diggers displayed on 'ere. So I am now pondering the purchase of a 360 excavator, anywhere between 5 and 15 tonne, BUT preferably on steel tracks with a long undercarriage for stability in the Moss. I do not have any preferences re brand or colour of paint. So What would be suggested, at say a fig of 10 to £15k? Cheers Mth
  18. Mac, As I have a habit of doing , "ah wuz thinking . . " the other night, that what is needed is a contraption to stuff hardcore(or Type whatever stone), into a prefabricated tube of Geofabric,(a kinda like the endless fabric tubes the US uses to store corn in) to constrain the stone, only snag is , said machine be so heavy as to be unsuited to Peaty ground. Dammn 'n blast! Anyway, my progress will depend on the erratic/sporadic supply of demolotion hardcore, at £80.00 per 8 wheeler load. cheers mth
  19. Thanks for that reference/link Mac, interesting stuff indeed. I will prob use the Geotextile approach on the as-yet unpaved wetter Rodden, basically working by myself in slow time over the Summer. Only about 100 to 150 iffy m to do, then I am back onto a dead sand/gravel knowe, so entirely DIY doable. cheers mth
  20. (i) No Geogrid used, yet. (ii) Basically felled the Birch across the Rodden, and attempted to keep all branches laid neatly side by side across the Rodden, and only 3 or 4 deep, with none/virtually none in some places, but deeper in the wetter places. Have not yet measured the metres done( this and photos a job for tomorrow) but "guesstimated" tipping the 8 wheeler trucks direct, without rehandling, justified the greater depth of hardcore needed to carry them, and the minimal wastage to the sides when tipping, compared to the hire cost of a 2nd digger and 2 or 3 fat tyred site dumpers. Only placed 40 loads direct, with 10 stockpiled for future use on the wetter rodden. cheers Marcus OH! And literally not a 1/2 Hr after the last load tipped, ABSOLUTLY torrential rain. Lucky or fortunate or wot! PS Matelot, What you mean by geo fibre, Terram or Tensar, i.e. filtration or reinforcement?
  21. Well!, the VAST difference 3 or 4 good drying days in March can make! I decided last Thur, to buy and stockpile the hardcore, while it was available, even though ground was still way too wet. By Friday afternoon, we had tentetivley started nosing up the Moss Rodden. I pondered and gambled and stood trucks down for Monday this week, to allow time for the weather to do its magic (and for me to fell Birch to lightly "brash" the Rodden) With 2 trucks, being filled from a stockpile by a 30 ton digger and a sub 4 mile draw, a load about every 15 minutes, which is quite perfect for my diggerman. Fingers crossed we will get the last 7 loads (of 50 No.) in this morning, without rehandling. Quite surreal to see fully laden 8 wheeler trucks "up the Moss" on pure unadulterated quivering peat. Two canny "nacky" young drivers though. mth.
  22. Fu!"£$%^&*ing lucky lucky Barstewart, living so far Sarfth 'an all.
  23. Well spotted:thumbup:
  24. Very very tidy woodlover, proper jealous of that I am.
  25. Ho Hum, one of our best(imho) Sec of State was Roy Mason, under Labour, while Wee Willy Whitlaw, flying up an down, not so much, from hazy personal remembrances. BUT! Mrs. Thatcher WAS what Britian NEEDED, even incl. the Falklands War. And her tough decisions/actions during the Miners Strike. I do however agree that as time went on she sucuumbed to delusions of Roman Emporer Invincibility (or Popish Infallibility) Wor Tony, was on the other hand, was nowt but a decietful self aggrandizing clever sleekit Knave, with an even worse wife.
