  1. Thanks for the replies, I'll check them out and pass them on to the customer. Phil
  2. Can anyone recommend a company to supply about 40ft of hedging? Customer still hasn't made up their mind as to what they want, but probably something native and wildlife friendly that will also provide a decent screen. I'm thinking Holly would be best. I'm based in Surrey. Cheers Phil
  3. Look what I'll be cutting down in a couple of months . . bigger than it looks, stem is probably just over 1ft diameter. But you probably have enough wood already, don't you, Steve?
  4. Another option is to spend so long on clearing needles and not doing the tree work that the company loses money on the job. If there are lots of needles I would still refuse.
  5. I guess it's easy to say this when I'm not the one in your position, but if it was me I would seriously consider refusing to carry out the work. Have you tried discussing the situation with your boss? I personally think it is unreasonable for the company to ask you to work in those circumstances
  6. Did I remember reading somewhere that it has something to do with carbohydrates being stored in the stubs, and this helps the tree produce new shoots? I'll wait to be corrected on this as at my age the old memory's not what it used to be! I personally always go to back close to the knuckle as I think the stalks look awful.
  7. Lots of Goldfinches up my way, along with Greenfinches, they love Sunflower hearts. The starlings won't touch them, though. I used to put suet pellets out, but the Starlings would come down in a big flock, wolf the lot down and sh*t everywhere!
  8. I don't think you should get any credit, as Steve was spot on first time round! 😝
  9. As above, I've just dropped this and was wondering if anyone wants some? Collection only, stem will be logged up into manageable pieces as access isn't great. Best to call and leave a voicemail 07973221746 Cheers... Phil
  10. Cheers guys, I'll order a testing kit and see what that shows 👍
  11. Thanks for the replies, I didn't get to see it before last weekend, so not sure about what the leaves were like before, and no changes in ground conditions. If Phytopthora, any treatment or is felling necessary?
  12. Afternoon all, does anyone have any idea what might cause a Holly tree to die back like it has in the photo? Definitely nor fire damage. Cheers... Phil
  13. This has got to be one of the weirdest growths I've seen in a Cherry, anyone got any idea what's caused it?

    My accident

Hi Sean, I can't imagine what you are going through right now, but stay positive and keep the updates coming. Glad to hear that you are surrounded by great family and friends. Phil
  15. Just out of curiosity, how do you attach the glass to the wood? Do you have any pictures of the finished product? Cheers...Phil

    Walnut

Just posted this in the woodcraft forum, looking for someone who can turn this stem into a table or something for my customer. Would need a mobile saw mill. It's in Hampton Court, Surrey. Cheers... Phil
  17. I'm clearing away this fallen Walnut stem and was wondering if anyone can suggest uses for the main stem rather than logging it up. I'm thinking that it could be made into a lovely table for the customer. The tree is near Hampton Court in Surrey and would need a mobile saw mill. Cheers... Phil
  18. I hope this isn't the Sean I worked with at The Tree Company in Hounslow, whether it is or isn't, hope you get better soon, buddy.
  19. Yes, lovely pattern. The tree was diseased, so I think this is a result of the fungus.
