  1. We rolled up at the customers house at 8am and got them out of bed! They'd assumed we wouldn't work in the rain!! Just a small willow to re-pollard, a crown lift and a dead wood, once your wet, your wet, and no work no pay!! Stopped for an early lunch to get out of the rain and it stopped, only to start hammering it down just as we went back to work Can't wait to get my soggy climbing kit back on tomorrow!
  2. Thanks for all your comments, probably opt for the 660 as a local dealer has offered me one at a good price, but almost fancy trying the 395xp just cos I haven't used a big Husky before. They do say a change is as good as a rest! So do heated grips help with preventing white finger?
  3. Evening all, it's time to add another saw to my small collection and thought I'd pick your brains! I've got a job coming up where I'm going to need a big saw. A Stihl 660 would do the job but was wondering what the husky equivalent is and whether it would be a better buy? Will be used for 'chogging' down a big stem and logging up. Opinions/preferences appreciated! Cheers...Phil
  4. just thought I'd add my two pennies, started contracting in Jan. at £130 a day, but it seems in london the daily rate is about £150, so am putting my rate up to £140 as of next week with a view to sneaking up to £150 once I've got a few more companies using me.
  5. Near Kingston, have been working around reading area for the company I'mleaving
  6. Cheers, fingers crossed for the New Year! Lets hope interest rates on the mortgage don't go up too quickly!!
  7. Five years experience, done everything from hedgecutting to large takedowns with a crane, have been a foreman/climber for the past 3 years.
  8. Hello all, just joined arbtalk and have a question for you, I'm about to go self employed as a sub-contracting climber and was wondering if someone go give me an idea of what the going rate is for an experienced climber? I live near Kingston upon Thames in Surrey. Hope you can help, Phil
