  1. Just wondering if anyone has had problems with clients paying the bill, how you dealt with it and if anyone knows what options are available to get an invoice paid? I've got a bad feeling about a client I've done some work for! cheers...Phil
  2. Yep, nothing but mistletoe left!!
  3. I did post this somewhere else, but worth another look! A bit of a dodgy street tree!
  4. Hi Laurence, you've a couple of options... 1. there is a tip site in Chobham, not too far from bracknell, will take logs chip and green waste for £25 per transit load. Tel: John 07702 197855 Hookstone Lane, Chobham. 2. Collier Enviromental Services, Kitsmead Lane, Longcross. £10 a load for woodchip, anything else is standard green waste rate. Hope this helps. Phil
  5. Found a couple of these in a Cotoneaster today. Anyone know what it is, and if they eat anything else apart from Cotoneaster as found one in the van when back at the yard, it is now in a tub in my kitchen! Cheers....Phil
  6. Also has had some new kerbing put in recently, not sure if that is relevant, but who knows what they cut when putting it in!
  7. Saw this in Teddington and thought someone might find it interesting. A dead Aesculus sp. with just a little bit of Mistletoe in it. Cheers Phil
  8. It might be worth doing what I did... worked for a company for 5 years getting experience and tickets, then as a subby for a couple of years to see how other people work and making contacts. Bought a van and chipper and started building up my own work while still subbing to bring in steady money. Got a website, and this year have only be working for myself. You'll need to know reliable groundies, but you can climb and run the business at the start (hard work and long hours, though). You'll need somewhere to get rid of chip, rakings and logs. And in my opinion, if you ttry and charge £600 for 2 men for a day, you wont get the work until you are established and have built up a reputation. Good luck, give it a go, if you are good at what you do and good with people you'll do alright.
  9. Ha ha Mr Roker, yeah no problem, but no funny business... I'm not your little Benjy
  10. Hi, I'm in need of a groundsman or two on Monday 10th June for a job near Esher in Surrey. PM me your details if interested. Thanks Phil
  11. Hi, I need a groundsman for Thursday 9th May for a job in Walton on Thames. I'm getting busy so could lead to more work in the future. PM your details. Cheers Phil
  12. Hi, would you be willing to travel up to Walton on Thames to work? I have occasional days where I need extra help. Cheers Phil
  13. Bought the van from GVC in kingswood, Surrey and included the tipper.
  14. Here's mine, full ally body, cost £3000
  15. Hi Dan, just a quick note to say thanks for your help the other day. If anyone is looking for a climber and groundie I can't recommend Dan and Ben enough. We knocked out what I thought would be a 2-3 day job in a day, allowing me to squeeze in more work! Dan and Ben work to a very high standard, work their nuts of all day and have a laugh at the same time. Cheers guys, see you on the 9th. Phil
  16. Hi all, I need an extra groundsman for a 2 day job near Reading on Thursday 21st and Friday 22nd Feb. PM me if interested. Cheers Phil
  17. Hi, I've a bit of work coming up that I might be able to use you on as a climber, mostly reductions in Staines. If you are interested then PM me your details and your rate and I'll get in touch when I get the go ahead. Cheers Phil
  18. Just sent a report in to FC with some pictures, so will wait to see if they want to take a look! Their site is a bit vague when it comes to detailing what you do if you have cut down and chipped branches of a tree which has Chalara! I wonder if they will expect tree waste to be burnt on site? That should make for some angry customers!!
  19. Thanks Tony, I guess it's a good thing that people are so passionate!!
  20. Thanks for all the suggestions, things do seem to get heated on here, don't they! Anyone know what sort of sample the FC would need to be able to confirm Chalara or not?
  21. Cheers for having a look, real shame if it is as the tree is a real feature of the garden. Guess I'll find out for sure in the Spring. Any idea if there are restrictions on what can be done with the waste if the tree does have it and is cut down?
  22. Recently climbed this Ash to remove a large dead branch and noticed some diamond shaped lesions around a few branch collars and the tree seemed to be sprouting lower down in the canopy. I know that these are possible indicators of Ash dieback. I haven't seen the tree in leaf but thought I would post a few photos to see what you guys think. The tree is a mature Ash which has had no pruning carried out on it for at least a couple of years from what I could see. Cheers Phil
  23. Hi Dan, I've got a job I need a hand with on 23rd and 24th Jan. I need an extra climber, van and groundie. Can you let me know if your interested and what your rates are? Oh and the job is in Kingswood in Surrey. Cheers Phil
  24. Groundsman wanted for a job in Weybridge in Surrey on Friday. Need own PPE. If interested then give me a call on 07973221746 tomorrow and leave a message. May lead to more days in the future. Cheers Phil
  25. Definitely go for it, I went to Capel Manor and did the year long National Cert. at 34. Am now 41 and working as a subby climber, just bought my own van and chipper with a view to building up my own business. Climb every day and love the job and can still put the twenty somethings to shame!!. Yes I get the usual aches, pains and repetitive strain injuries, but wouldn't trade them in for life in an office any day. But it will take a few years to be experienced enough to earn good money. Hope it works out for you.
