    Ticks!

LOOK, is there anything in this image that suggests to you that turning clockwise or anti-clockwise, or any other direction, will aid in extracting a tick? NO! So just PULL.

    Ticks!

I've been trying to think if there's a creature I hate more, and whilst I can't quite make up my mind. It might be the Horsefly.

    Ticks!

Yes they will, but only after regurgitating some of the contents of their gut, and so massively increasing your chances of contracting Lymes. DON'T DO IT!

    Ticks!

It's also a good idea to avoid using deer trails, and to avoid walking one behind the other where possible. Ticks that sense movement in the surrounding foliage immediately begin "Questing", raising the fronts of their bodies off the leaf or stem, and waving their front legs in the air, hoping to latch on to a passing animal. This would increase their chances of getting onto a host. Such as when a group of deer move along a trail, the first animal disturbs the foliage, but may not pick up many ticks, the following animals are then walking through a corridor of alert Ticks poised to grab the next thing that passes them.
  7. Think about it. How many of the 12000 (ish) members are just not confident enough to post? It's probably useful for them to log on and read and gain good info ( and this is one of the few sites you can do that). Look at most forums and it's cliques, back-biting and slagging. If you ain't in, your out and so subject to utter torment if you say anything that don't conform. One of the things I like about this forum, is that ( on the whole) people want to advise and help, but that's not what people generally expect from a lot of forums.

    Ticks!

I had to take the dog to the vets a while go and asked for some while I was there. He then told me what a great product it is, and how when his kids come home from school with head lice he just doses them with......................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................Yep you guessed it.

    Ticks!

The dog comes to work with me every day. He has one advantage when it comes to ticks. FRONTLINE,
  10. Perhaps it's a case of, it being better for people to think you're an idiot, rather than opening your gob, and confirming it for them:001_smile::001_smile:

    Ticks!

Today I was walking around one of the woods I work in. It's a SSSI and NNR and I do a lot of work for Natural England there. I was looking for suitable trees to mount time expansion recording devices in, to monitor bat activity. I have always found this site to be the worst I have ever come across for Ticks. I must have killed 250-300 1st instar ticks and 150 2nd instar with a few later instar. For those of you who work in the woods, how many do you tend to pick up and how do you deal with them. Personally, with the numbers I seem to pick up here, I have to just run a lighter up and down my legs, and burn them off. I REALLY HATE THEM!

    Fathers Day

I won't let my kids buy me anything for Fathers day. It's just a Hallmark invention so they can sell more cards. They did make me a very nice card though, and I got kisses and hugs from my two girls. What more do you need?
  13. So what you suggest then is essentially an immunisation programme. Use the global corporations to cure the ills of the planet? I'm sure old Ted Jenner would be proud of your thinking................................................................................................Or perhaps not.
  14. Is it this one? PARK FARM GREAT HAMPDEN GREAT MISSENDEN BUCKINGHAMSHIRE HP16 9RD
  15. Boondock saints.
  16. I like Aspalls, my local though has just replaced it with Aspalls Harry Sparrow. Not nearly as good.
  17. Think this may be almost as good.
  18. Westons Old Rosie.
  19. While I'm thinking about it "Once were warriors"
  20. HSE "recommends" that you refresh every 5 years (as a pro). The fact is that if you had to make a claim and your insurance company checks your CPD (including refreshers) and you can't demonstrate that you you are competent, they will, in all probability refuse your claim. I know guys who have been on the saw for decades who are bloody dangerous. Most of them are still working on their old "blue book" ticket and don't realise that this is not even recognised as proof of competence by insurance companies anymore, nor can you refresh a blue book, you have do the whole lot again.
  21. Four Lions, the funniest serious movie ever.
  22. Roughly 200 Bhp and 430Nm. Spanks the pants off standard, and a towing dream.
  23. Sorry guys, I know that my Landy don't really fit the usual upgrade list, but it do make I smile. 2002 90 hard in met blue. Range Rover Sport 19" Alloys. 30mm lowered on Terra firma big bore shocks. Garrett Variable turbo. Silicon hose kit. Upgraded intercooler. Dastek chipped. Overboost box. Custom Straight-through exhaust (Not a baffle or cat in sight). I love it and it's pretty good as an off road tool. If I get time next weekend I'm taking it to the "Dirty Weekend" in Bircham. Anyone else going?
  24. I take it then that he employs you to ensure that he is complying with the requirements of his HLS agreement. If this is the case, you should be allowed to get on with it. If he don't want to comply, he can always give the money back.
  25. Get a DBH tape and a clinometer. Alternatively get a relascope and some mensuration tables, with these you can estimate your total standing m3. You can then advertise what you are selling. I would say always mark up yourself (unless someone you know and trust is doing the felling). Best place to sell, up to you, but from what I've seen on here.............................here. You probably get as good a price as anywhere.
