  1. Hi if you climb a pine tree in early spring and see a white fluffy nest full or brown caterpillars about 4 cm long, give them a wide berth they ll be Thaumetopea Pityocampa (processionery pine caterpillars) they will give you a very nasty burn where ever they come into contact with your skin. It been know for them to kill small children and animals. OH and watch out for tree snakes. Apart from that you ll be fine:thumbup::thumbup:
  2. MATE! six legs you must be one hell of a climber :lol:
  3. Yep should be Rain but Snow is more fitting for this time of year. Do you know who wrote it in the first place ? its been a rhyme I ve known since a kid. Swans sing before they die twer no bad thing should certain persons die before they sing. Is another one
  4. I either call 118118 or search the net, I cant remember the last time I used the Yellow pages or the Thompson. I got a slap in the face when it came up for renewal and because I said no after being with them for 7 years they decided to half the cost which really got my goat up.
  5. Good on you Dave!
  6. Im in the same boat I was giving the rubbish wood away saying to people just bung me a drink and receiving anywhere from £10 to £30 , so now when Im asked I say yep you can have a truck full of the worst wood I ve got in the yard if you cut and split it your self for £30. They cant get there hands in there pockets quick enough, which suits me down to the ground. Going to keep all of the rubbish cord this year and if it looks like were in for another cold winter ill log the lot if not ill blow it into Biomass.
  7. I wish I could Help Mick but Im right down on the south coast of England, but Im sure someone will be more than happy to give you some climbing practice. I wish you all the very best mate and hope you hook up with somebody that loves the job and not a slave driver. It makes a world of difference
  8. I doubt it. I would rather wear the magnums and not be knackerd at the end of the day, Never found a pair of climbing boots that are flexable with a good heel for spiking, cool in the summer warm in the winter. That dont take 20 minutes to lace up. Always found the souls so thick that when I was climbing I couldnt judge the grip I had or gain extra purchase on small branches with out snapping draw shoots. Ive got about 4 pairs of old climbing boots in the loft and thats where they ll stay, Magnums all the way:thumbup1:
  9. A nice pair of Hi tec magnums, just dont tell the boss there not chainsaw proof.
  10. The snow falls on the just fella and the unjust fella, but mainly on the just fella because the unjust fellas got the just fellas umberella:crazy:
  11. The worst thing that can happen in our trade is an accident the second worse thing is when one of the lads rings 999 and doesnt know the address or location if your in a wood. Make sure everybody knows where your working it doesnt cost a penny but may give you that extra couple of minutes that make all the difference, Stay safe one and all! and look after your kids, if you live long enough they ll choose your nursing home :laugh1:
  12. Get a second opinion from a planning consultant, They can get round most things
  13. I was brought up with chainsaws rifles and 6 sisters is enought training in my eyes I had a rather heated conversation with the range conducting officer who was a former armourier in the para, when a group of local school children had an afternoon on the range, when they brought the rifles into the gun room he asked If they were safe a which point all 6 looked directly down the muzzel into the chamber to check for obstructions. This was what he had just taught them in their induction his reason for teaching them this as he explained was because it was nt possible to look down the barrel from the chamber because of the telescopic sight. Words fail me in these situations and that was the last time I went in there. The lasting danger is that for a younge child to be taught this on one rifle will probably remain with them and always be used as a prosedure if they come into contact with a fire arm in the future.
  14. With you all the way there Sam:thumbup1: I was nt asked by the FLO to do the Dsc1 I wanted to do it for my own sake and I learnt alot. Having said that and now im going to drop the bomb I ve never done any chainsaw courses.
  15. Yeah your right, I did my BDS DSC level 1 before I applied for my .243 funny as the only person to fail the safety and markmanship was a serving member of the Marines, Bit of a Tim Tim nice but dim. Got a 270 wsm put on my ticket but as work isnt as profitable as I would have liked this year I ve put it on the back burner
  16. Did 3 small white pops last saturday and I ve never seen sap run like it, so it would be a good time to do it now to gain the extra weight
  17. Polarded Just shy of 50 pops last year and deliverd all of the timber which must have been about 50 tons 10 miles away free of charge, just to see the back of it. I got the same ammount to do when the weather sorts its self out and not sure if its worth stacking it in the yard and blowing it into chip for the power stations. Along with the other rubbish cord I ve got laying about and the chip from the smaller branches I should have about 80 tons Last I heard it was £35 a ton. But its not something I ve done before so Id have to ask for advice myself
  18. Where do you shoot Dean ? "Sangin"
  19. A mate of mine got home to find his wife had bought the contents of a gym when he asked why she replied that it was to increase the size of her bust, what a waste of money he replied all you need to do is every morning when you wake up rub a piece of toilet roll between your hooters. Will that work she asked, Well its done wonders for the size of your bum.
  20. No being serious for a mo, nothings safe in the wrong hands, I ve been shooting since the age of 4 and payed to have a gun on a syndicate shoot at the age of 13, Im now 33 and have seen a few things that put me off shooting with anybody except 2 very close friends,
  21. Guns dont kill people rappers do
  22. Further to my last post the clutch has just given up the ghost on my Bluebird sg13 stump grinder ( now badged up as a Husky sg13 ) I had a quick search and found a link back to the forum and an old post from a member that got a price quoted of £1000 from Husqvarna, he then got put in touch by another member to whetherbys that sold him the same clutch for £175 all in . HOW CAN THEY KEEP GETTING AWAY WITH IT ??????????
  23. Been advertising since I started about 8 years ago but made my mind up to give it a miss this year and concentrate on previous customers and recommendations, as I can get home to messages on the answer phone and ring them back that evening to find that they have excepted a price all ready or even in some cases that the job has already been done. Thompson rang and I said I didnt want to renew they told me I would lose my discount if I decided next year to start advertising again, I stuck to my guns and said no. I kept getting phone calls from them and in the end one from one of their staff asking if I would like them to re quote I said why and she replyed that she could give me a further 50% discount. Im not going to deal with them again
  24. Been there and got the T shirt! Had the same trouble as you and went through the same thought process, mine only did it now and then, until I tipped up in the yard one day and the body wouldnt go down, I had to take the pipe of the ram to let the body drop and spill the oil over a pile of woodchip, It turned out to be the solernoid i rang the company that made the body and they sent me one for £25. If you ve got a strong magnet you can stroke it on the solernoid and it will open the valve and the body will drop
  25. Got mine insured through Coop cis fully comp, got full no claims bonus for £400
