  1. Your a bit of a dab hand at that mate . Is it a full time thing of does it just act as a fill in ?
  2. Very nice mate! My heart has'nt been 100% behind tree work for the last few years and very rarely do I feel as if Im improving the enviroment that we all live in. Taking these first few steps into copse cutting (Im hoping) might be the breath of fresh air I need . Seeing pictures like yours is very inspiring, keep up the good work
  3. Wrong! Its what you know, about who you know
  4. Thanks for the advice! Im taking it all onboard What Ill try and do (as copse cutters down here are like hens teeth) is take a few photos of the stands and post them so we can pick them over and you guys can see what Im working with. Im not to worried at this stage about products but more concerned doing harm to the stands.
  5. Cheers Craftyweasel! If you were to leave 50% of a Hazel stand then would you thin it? remove the oldest polls? trim the centre or the outer growth? I know how I must sound but I really am a novice re copse cutting
  6. Cheers Brushcutter and Evenangles! Some of the stands are in real bad shape, I dont think some have been touched for at least 20 years. Its a real shame to see them in such a state, The map of the farm has all the old names of the copses on it and now its all been let go . Im going to take a few pictures and keep my fingers crossed that I can make a few quid to cover the fuel cost, If I can do that and improve the woodland then Ill be a happy man
  7. Nice saw that mate!
  8. Thanks lads! Im chomping at the bit to get up in the woods and have ago , I was worried that I might have left it to late and missed the boat. Im a total novice re copse cutting can anybody discribe how a Hazel stand thats been cut correctly should look please ?
  9. Hi all! what months do you start copse cutting Hazel and sweet Chestnut and what months do you stop ?
  10. Did it come with matching lycra ?
  11. Dead right the fire only needs to be on top of a root for it to be damaging,
  12. Fine to burn in a stove but spits on an open fire. I was once told that if you put it on an open fire bark down it will still spit but the sparks wont fly outwards, never tried this out myself, any chance other members have heard the same?
  13. Sounds like the old girl is beyond saving if the damage is over half way round the tree, Shame if Im right. lets hope somebody on here has another idea
  14. Any chance its roots have been damaged ?
  15. Mr Apeballs ! You are now on my naughty list
  16. I got ya I thought you could'nt understand the A-Team bit, but everytime I go into the workshop and start welding and fabing stuff it always reminds me of the stuff they used to make, going to quit my jibba jabba and scoot
  17. I dont think any of us on here can spit our dummies out because someone is using a tool without a qualification. Were all doing an odd bit of welding electrics plumbing or even modifying our work trucks and tools . If this thread was (what other trades can you turn your hand to ? ) then Im sure we would all be puffing our chests out telling stories of how much money we saved by not employing a proffesional with the qualifications to boot. I love being able to use machinery and tools and dare I say it on occasions the result of my unqualified work probably rivals that of a proffesional ( A-Team Generation )
  18. PM sent
  19. Well done mate! Im sure we have'nt heard the last of your little baby yet I can see your future posts already: How does anybody who's a Dad keep a job down on 3 hours sleep ? Do baby nappies burn if well seasoned ? will baby sick rot my climbing rope ? take a small tip from me, cherish every moment and dont turn down the opertunity to get a bit of shut eye
  20. I'd be more than happy in future to deal with you Spud! and having a bloke like yourself on the forum can only be a good thing in my eyes all the best and hope to do business with you in the not to distant future.
  21. Nice one Twistedhicap! cheers for that, Im not sure but it may have been Kirs fruit farm or Kirdford growers that had the Merlin engine.
  22. My old man worked on a fruit farm in the 1960s, they had a Rolls Royce merlin engine with a propellor on it that kept the air moving if the tempreture dropped to low and stopped the frost from settling on the fruit in the orchards.
  23. Hi Spud! you've said you've seen post codes on saws but what good does it do unless plod is contacted and asked if someone with that post code has had a saw stolen in the last x amount of years ? low stress and all that! but I thought you were a good person to ask as I know that you recondition second hand saws . How does anybody including yourself check the legitimate ownership of a saw ?
  24. In that sense it is probably a good Idea , and something I should do.
