  1. I used to work on farm that ran marshall's and they were a good tractor. To do the clutch you dont have to take the cab off you have to un bolt the seat then unbolt the console and slide that back to were the seat was and take a bit out the top of the bell housing and your there ! The 804 we had sounded lovely with a straight through pipe on it used to love driving that
  2. We normally cross thebelts when running the benches as it helps to keep the belts on as they are normally quite long the wind can get hold of them and cause them to move about. My mate has got a stenner that takes a 6ft blade and cut a stick up to 24ft in length.
  3. I wouldnt do the timing belt as for most customers that i do it for there money is short !!!! When a tdi belt does go they normally only bend pushrods any way !!! Its different if you have to remove the cambelt to get the head off i would agree change it as a matter of course. and no i would always change the oil so
  4. Getting the head skimmed is a must !! They are real easy to do nothing tricky at all. Make sure you get a good quality gasket "elring" are on of the prefered makes. No need to go any where near the timing belt as it doesnt gonearthe cylinder head.
  5. That 974 belongs to a friend of mine. His son works at Osbournes it has been there for about 5 years has been stripped right down and built back up again. Knowing what hes like it will be in the woods with his forwarding trailer on before the year is out !!!!
  6. Have a look under the drivers seat if its a defender this is where the ecu and a lot of relays etc are located you may be able to spot something and find out whats buzzing
  7. A friend of mine has one of these that he has been using to move his rack saw around the steam rallies. It does go like stink on the road will do about 50 i think he said. Its biggest down fall is it isnt heavy enough and struggles with traction. It is fitted with air brakes pto and linkage to use the linkage you have to have the back door open and the rear floor folded up so the linkage will rise and fall properly. His has got a perkins 4.236 engine the gearbox is the same as a bedford tk and there are loads of landrover series bits fitted to it.
  8. Some good pics the rack bench is owned by a very good friend of mine. Its surprising what turns up on ebay !!!!!!
  9. I'll be there again this year up in the road roller section. Always gone since ive been alive !!!!!!!!!!!!! I may also been in the wood sawing area as my mate has a big stenner and gunn bench which the other month he was cutting a 24 foot length on !!
  10. I fitted a GKN overdrive to a 200 tdi 90 a few years ago it worked very well and the owner was well pleased with it. Another option you have is fitting transfer gears from a td5 disco to your transfer box which will help gear it up to improve cruising speed done that to a couple of my mates landies lately. Hope this helps
  11. Went down my mates garage today and he had a nivara on the ramp with the sump off to fit one of these mod kits so it gets better oil pressure on initial start up. It was only a small tube that has to be replaced in the sump. The problem is the book time to do the job is meant to be 13 hours !!! You can see why because you have to take the front diff unit out and to remove the sump there are 2 bolts that go through from the flywheel hsg so the engine in theory has to come out !!!!! Glad ive got a landy (or 5 !!! )
  12. Dan is based just outside of Ringwood havent seen him for a few years. The last time i saw him he was taking part in an event they were filming for "Scrapheap Challenge" on the Bealieu estate which i was helping to organise the recovery on the off road course.
  13. I'm pretty certain that a remap is more involved its not just plug and play so to speak ! My mate had his td5 done he had to take to a place with all the proper kit eg a rolling road. They put it on the rolling road and check all the parameters of what the ecu is doing and then they "remap" the ecu to get the best out of it. Hope this helps:001_smile:
  14. I have seen the dyneema rope break in use on landrover winches at winch challenges like anything it does have its limitations the only good thing is when it breaks it drops to floor rather than flail about like a steel wire !!!
  15. Hi there we run our bench with with a marshall 264 compact tractor it has a twin cylinder lombardini in and it runs it perfectly can only just pick it up but runs it a treat. The best thing is it hardly uses any diesel as well
