This looks like a secondary infection. original problem was caused by Erisoma lanigerum. weakening the cambium layer. Agree with Polyporus but Species not so sure depends on the amount of dead wood. looking at the one year growth I would guess that the picture was taken around. August bank holiday

oh no you can't On a serious note, Write out a disclaimer for the land owner to sign. Stating that you have no formal qualifications for chainsaw and they are happy for you to carry on. Or phone the citizen's advice and see what they say. This will be better than saying that some one that you don't know on the internet said it's ok
