  1. Leaving 6 inch stubs are classed as coat hangers not good. if you are replacing, cut just above the collar. trees that have been spur pruned will live just as long as any other tree. Tip bearers will produce fruit on the tips of one year wood example Bramley and Discovery. although they may not set if strong and upright. tuck them under to an angle of 30º or less this will help the set.
  2. Thank you Tony, yes I see what you mean, when I get time I will try and write an easy to follow guide.
  3. First look at the way the tree has been trained in the first place, is it delayed open centre or centre leader? Then variety, are they tip bearers or stem bearers? Have they been previously spur pruned or replacement pruned? Strong upright shoots do not produce fruit. Weaker brindles and dards do. How long have the trees been left without pruning, if the trees have little one years growth they will need pruning harder to promote new growth.
  4. Oak 1 to be honest I am not sure Oak 2 definitely Cerris Oak 3 it is a hybrid Oak 4 coccinea splendens

  10. Had a few minutes to take these whilst removing damaged part of sycamore. and one reason why we were there
  11. OK Quite busy. Up on the north downs tomorrow looking at the next bit to reinstate back as natural chalk grass land. I see Robs put up a challenge, I must photo some of the different oaks on the estate. we'll see how you all do. Must admit I am not sure on all of them.
  12. ID on some of these would be appreciated,
  13. Letter from NPTC last week said there is no CS33
  14. Hate to say this if you took the old CS32 it will say fell medium sized trees. Translated means trees 15 to 30 inches in diameter, so you are restricted to this limit. The new CS32 says fell and process trees over 380mm, so there is now no upper limit. Whether you agree or disagree it is NPTC that have made the changes.
  15. All NPTC assessments reccommended" bar length 15 in CS31 trees up to 15in CS32 is now 15in + and no upper limit.. CS33 does not exist any more
  16. Sometimes if you put too much oil in the fuel mix it can coke up the exhaust port. then it can't expel all the exhaust gasses, so it wont rev fully.
  17. can anyone ID this little one
