  1. Questionaire done, and good luck on the dissertation would be interested to see the results..
  2. That looks more like the aftermath of the London riots a couple o months back. Rain has stopped here in Ironbridge, still very windy though, no tree's or anything down, not yet anyway's
  3. A Premium wicking t would be fantastic, as i live in the West Mid the rainfall is slightly higher than average.OH By The Way Steve you recently asked if work was keeping me busy, as i havn't been on here for a while, well i've been busy studying. Im doing the ISA Certified Arborist Cert as well as the RFS Cert Arb, and have just completed a woodland Management Diploma with Fruit Tree's as a speceilism..
  4. Quite right too, i havn't read the New Arb Mag yet, nor will i (well if i got a freebie through the post i may as well give it a read) But, you can get a oad more usefull info through Arbtalk and the best bit is you have a Very Big network of like minded people to keep up to date with. Im a member of the Arb Association and IMO the info in the Arb Journal and Essential Arb publications are so spot on there is no need to look any further apart from on this forum
  5. I've goon for meduim, but if i've gone to the Gym thats a large( If Ladies are present though that will be S,To show off my ripling torso:thumbup:)
  6. I certainly agree here, i too started around 5yrs ago, and consider myself just starting out. For the past 2yrs i've been working with an arborist who's got 20yrs in the industry and there's still loads more that he wants to learn, and his Quals are loads CS30,31,32,34,38,39,40,41,42,44,RFS Cert Arb, AA Tech Cert, to name a few, and i think he's got a degree or to in Arb/Forestry as well, so you can see from this, you can do just the basics or learn and learn and learn
  7. I know mate, when i was working for myself i at times had to work 7 days a week to get jobs done, was a nervous wreck come the following week. Now i work for a Conservation Trust i only work weekends on emergency tree work, and the only weekend thats worked now is a Saturday morning for paperwork:001_cool:
  8. Im a young 37 year old been climbing for about 18 mnths, started in the business in 2006 and loving every minute of it. Im reasonably fit and consider i've got another 5yrs climbing in me, and as i work for a conservation trust theres lots of scope for me when i have to give up climbing. One of my work mates is 45 and he's still climbing, though he leaves all the big tree's to me..
  9. Too right, i work for a Conservation Trust in Shropshire, mainly in woods so most of the time im left alone, but occasionaly the big boss or the local Planning Officer will come an have a look, if i was caught using the 200t with one hand, that would be my career over. It does annoy me however that the young recruits (And even the supervisors) can pretty much cut one handed and no one bats an eyelid, when working on the Council gang..
  10. Try WCE Networks (The Utility Arb Company) i know that they have recently been awarded a big xxxmillion contract to do E-on and Railtrack work, lots of different opportunities, you may be required to do a DNO course or equivalent, but that only takes about a week. There web address is wce-network-services.co.uk:001_cool:
  11. I likewise worked, scrimped and saved for around 5 years to get my tickets (CS40 to date) However i am in process of hopefully seeking funding from Lantra to pay for my Arb Assocition Technicians Ceretificate, so try LANTRA, they have loads of locally sourced funding and training organisations, to help people in our wonderfull but challenging industry..
  12. The Sonim Landrover phone is fantastic recently dropped mine bout 60 out of a tree, landed in a pond, once i found it out of the pond it didnt even have a scratch made a call with it with no probs. The GPS is good too, once you can get it to work that is...
  13. I claim Tax Credits, and without them i would have no place to live as they are used to pay the rent. My wife is severly disabled, she takes liquid morphine and morphine tablets just to survive each day (She definately is no Incapacity Benifit scrounger) And on top of that i have my wifes ORPHANED severaly autistic Nephew to look after as well, so without benefits i woud be screwed, as i can't always work full time....
  14. Absolutely..Being on time, and being polite is a big plus for any tradesman, and in my experience if you cannot start work on the day you agreed with the customer, tell them asap and tell the truth, most people cant spot a liar miles off, and that deffinately is'nt good for business:thumbup:
