  1. Just wondering, normally, on a lowering job, I lower the limb myself using handy stubs for friction, I find this keeps the groundy free to deal with the material with two hands. Really big stuff we use a third bloke and a friction device. Do many others do this or is this too "Flintstones"
  2. Well, there's always next year! Well done to Steve et al for all the hard work, must have been a real PITA at times.
  3. Love "Big Bang" compare it to "Miranda" and that tells you all about the state of British comedy.
  4. There is always a mild spell at some point, winter will be back, February can be a right so and so.
  5. They can nick from behind your house aswell:001_smile:, where do you keep your stuff?
  6. Maybe she would tell you to rent a yard! 200 quid a month for a corner of a farm yard should be do-able.
  7. are you ordering them from the uk?
  8. Our Nige is getting through The Street birds from the Audrey downwards. There is also the hope of some girl on girl stuff soon.
  9. I used to like Ray Mears but he's lost his way a bit. Dull Dull Dull.
  10. Will it chip better with the decals?
  11. When is the draw? I feel zig-zaggy!!!
  12. or 2 months ago! take your pick.
  13. He's got a point!
  14. Yes, point taken, I said my bit:001_smile:
  15. The Kohler command 25hp is very very good, (ime)
  16. Just to clarify, are you saying they were still teaching this 2 years ago?
  17. Well pardon me! I'll warm up the brontosaurus and ride off in a huff; I figure the guy asked if there was anything wrong with it. ie is it dangerous or bad practice, the answer was no it is not. (FTR I use a flipline as a second line)
  18. I've dipped in and out of this and the only comment I have is that I think people should remember Silky Fox is/was a qualified and very experienced climber. I have enjoyed his thread like many but I think whenever some "greenhorn" comes on asking or bemoning the work situation people point to His Foxness and say "you wanna be a bit more like him!" or "crawl to work on your belly if need be!" (being a bit facetious there) This is no reflection on the OP but I think their situations are very different. Just a thought:001_smile:
  19. Nothing wrong, infact we were taught to do it that way at college in the early 90s.
  20. I've never understood why people obsess about harnesses, as if you cannot climb in one or the other. If it is a new, good quality arb harness with all the loops and hoops you're good to go, along a pair of spikes and some rope.
  21. Looks like a lot of money for a large marquee! nothing second hand about?
  22. By answering his post he is contacting him:001_smile:
  23. As a 49 year old I can say that if I had to get up every day and go and climb for someone else rain or shine to keep my job then no, I couldn't do it. I can, as a small business, cancel if the weathers bad, my back hurts (like today)If you are 50 working as an employee up a tree every day to keep the wolf from the door you took a wrong turn somewhere. I have a mate in the Uk who had a climber of around 35, quick, reliable etc. This bloke had a couple of kids and a demanding missus, he was paid a good whack around 120 quid a day (over 10 years ago) he left for a better paid job in a factory, sick pay, paid holidays, no cancelled rain days. That's where the majority of people go, to safer, securer, easier jobs. Luckily (or unluckily!) there are droves of youngsters to replace them.
