  1. the length of the bar or the chain is surely irrelevant to the mps, that's determined by the sprocket size and rpm no? maybe domestic saws are less "aggressive" because the bar is oversize relative to the engine capacity
  2. why not build yourself a splitter? the one in my avatar will shear timber up to 4 inch dia... or, i've a japa 100 up for offer, needs a new blade though, i pinched the one that was on it to replace knackered one on japa 700!
  3. You must, I assume, be handling the 1m3 bags at the yard end with a loader of some sort? in which case regarding filling them give the bag a good jounce when the bag is nearly full, this helps settle the logs and also makes for a better stack of bags if you cut a lot up in advance.
  4. definitely spits but great for stoves, AKA poor man's oak, also good for kindling
  5. not much in it according to google! but will give you a shout if I'm down your area anyway, always good to meet new folks. Thanks for the offer:001_smile:
  6. my eyes are peeled:001_rolleyes: just managed to source some really nice stair stringer waste, got 6ft lengths of oak bannister too, may have to mix that with the firewood.... am thinking of taking a trip to fuelwood's site for a demo, unless there's someone closer who's machine i could peruse:sneaky2:
  7. still all present and correct at the moment... just struggling to keep up with orders! (apologies for derail:blushing:)
  8. don't remind me, am still kicking myself i didn't offer you £2800 when you were asking for offers around £3k...
  9. (I can think of a few others that statement could refer to as well. no names mentioned of course...!)
  10. got my vote:001_smile:
  11. oh and BTW, now selling cm bags of cricket bat willow as closed fire logs £70 delivered. people love it! (sorry, de-rail!)
  12. i strated off my firewood business with alder alone! brilliant stuff:thumbup1:
  13. hardwood, i understood only pine/conifer etc to be soft wood. probably wrong on that count but hey...
  14. with 2 people you can tip them over from trailer onto floor them pull them off the heap. one on the trailer pushing/lifting and one on the ground pulling with a rope through the two loops furthest from him lot of hassle needing two people on deliveries or relying on customer being fit and willing... i got a loadhandler (search "cheap way to empty your pickup"), best thing i've bought this year.
  15. bet it would sting like hell in existing cracks and cuts!
  16. no help now im afraid, but if you find a supply (for next season perhaps) and would make it cheaper to have more tonnage i may be interested in going in with you...
  17. super uni all the way in engines!!
  18. surely it would be better if the lad had asked to be shown if he was not sure? reflects badly on the lad for getting so far without thinking hmmm, surely this shouldn't be this difficult... "Ask a question and feel a fool for a moment, never ask and be a fool all your life is way I look at it." (as quoted by Yeti in a previous thread) a little knowledge is a dangerous thing good job it was only a nuisance outcome and not a harmful or lethal one like the BC ash a few weeks ago could have been...
  19. i know its only a snippet of the scenario but, what exactly was he doing right???
  20. I'm managing £70 delivered on 1m3 seasoned willow at the moment so should get £90 for dry hardwood, but as said check locally.
  21. doh! should have twigged that one...
  22. offcuts from kindling production!! waste not want not:biggrin:
  23. even including the business i'm very pleased and lucky to say we owe under 10k and that's only because we had a brand new baler and hay tedder this season... oh, and by the way i have no chickens...
  24. if you care to post which torques you need i'll be able to find out tomorrow from a mate...
