  1. I have been there to hard times are here for sure! I really feel for you! I've just been knocked for £3k and its just made things that bit harder! Oh and to top it off the guy who owes the money txt me saying can I come back and do more work in two weeks time lol errr NO. Oh ok he says will find another company poor buggers that get stung by him (sites in Lakenheath)

I had to sell my disco and connect van to make ends meet :-(

  2. I think every company is going to be different. some people have different yard rates, insurance advertising etc.. Mine was about the £295 mark last year but I cut back on rubbish that I did not need poor marketing old trucks (got new stuff so repair bills dropped loads) looked after saws better made chains last that bit longer worked smarter etc..

Also as we all know its not about turnover its profit.

  3. That works out as less then £7,500 a year, assuming you work 5 days a week and have holidays..

We spent about £10K last year on fuel.

Wish my fuel bill was that low last year we spent £24k! And I don't have that much kit I hope this year I've managed to reduce it by £6k

I sat down a while back and worked out my running cost before wages was about £135 a day +fuel (on average £55 per day) + wages

  4. I am always willing to give people a go as long as they are keen, polite, don't moan etc.. Having the tickets is a big plus as i don't have to hold there had all day! But I have taken people on before and trained them and spent time effort and money on them and once they have some time on the tools bugger off! But that life :(

Go and spend some time with a company for a weeks or so for free or token £ and see if you like it

  5. I've got a new shape 3.0ltr Hilux crewcab and I love it pulls really well with a trailer. Fairly good on fuel about 30mpg. The new satnav/touchscreen Bluetooth rear camera thing is really handy. I used to love land rovers but I don't think I would ever go back to one. Loads of space in the cab and comfortable on long drives and for a big truck goes fairly quick!
