  1. Dealt with the trunk today - it was definitely Honey fungus.
  2. Apparently it was Honey fungus according to another contractor that quoted for the job.
  3. Today, and tomorrow - a dead Welly takedown. Some views from above. Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  4. This was my thought also, that it was probably just due to the strong wind in general. Thanks for the responses guys.
  5. Hoping that there may be an ex gas engineer in Arbtalk world. Got a nice client who loves her trees but is persistently bullied by her neighbour who doesn't like the trees close to their boundary. They now reckon that during the recent strong winds the cedar tree closest to their chimney created a wind vortex causing a downdraft and setting off their monoxide alarm. Anyone know whether this is feasible or just baloney.
  6. And the Arb world is only part of it. The golf course i do tree work for has been hit twice recently. The University Colleges are targeted regularly. Anyone that has enough grounds to warrant having machinery is on their hit list.
  7. When i asked Timberwolf that same question a few years back I think that the response was that as long as the engine has been serviced regularly then it should be good for at least 3000 hours.
  8. He would be totally liable under the Occupiers Liability Act should a tree that has been identified as defective cause damage. I'm unsure if you can force him to do any works but i would certainly get professional to survey the trees - even with binoculars you should be able to identify some potential defects. I would then write a letter and get it recorded delivery stating that specific trees under his ownership are identified as defective for whatever reasons and that he is liable for any damaged caused. Make it quite clear that you would nail his arse to the floor if anything did happen. This wouldn't be much recompense if god forbid the worst did happen but by highlighting clearly to him that you would ruin him might just make him do the right thing. I'd also copy in the council with the letter.
  9. This is the only reason why i only have one ported saw. If I didn't have employees, i'd be sending every saw that I have to be Spudutized.
  10. Just put my 200T back together after a wee service. New Meteor piston, manifold, air filter and a Sugi-Hara super light!! Throughly cleaned out the saw and de-coked the exhaust. Can't wait to try it out on a couple of conies tomorrow.
  11. Never had call codes whilst i've been in arb but when i younger, out with mates, it would just be "mine" for the first spot on a beauty or "yours" for an ugg.
  12. I have a fairly good RHS book on trees and shrubs that states "time to prune" under each plant. Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  13. A friend used to have a Schliesing - not sure which model. They seem a good, solid, well built machine but a bit heavy. I seem to remember that parts were quite expensive and maybe harder to get hold of than the more common chippers. Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App

  15. That's true eggs and in big companies they can absorb that into their overall training budget. The tickets he's mentioned would cost thousands, which for a small employer would be a huge expense but they can't easily pass that on to customers as they are likely competing with many other small firms which probably don't bother with training. I just know that i'd be a bit miffed if after spending that much on training a second year climber then demanded a pay increase. Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  16. I think OMTC hit the nail on the head in post#3. You still haven't said if your employer has put you through all the tickets. If you paid for them yourself, i would say it's a fairly low wage (both my climber and groundie are both on more than that), if your employer paid for them then I would keep schtum. 17. Tried to partake in Movember this morning when shaving my beard off but promptly got orders from the boss to take it off. Will donate anyway.
  18. Spud's not too far away and i'm sure that his wife won't mind you filling up the drive with logs. 😜 Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App

  20. Nice one jamster but i'd say you've slightly over estimated the height of those, unless it's just a bad camera angle. Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  21. i've almost thrown saw out of trees on several occasions but the tight-arsed side of me will never allow the fingers to release. Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  22. Yes, most modern mechanics are crap. I stopped using the local garage when they wanted to replace a leaking diesel injector pump, worn ball joint plus other bits for over £2k. Friend recommended his local garage who managed to fix the pump (replaced a washer/seal), ball joint was fine but did need a track rod end. Instead of about £2200 it cost me £150. Another frustrating fact when i've used different garages is when they have no urgency to get your commercial vehicle back on the road. Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  23. Sorry to jump on your thread TSE but i'd also like to know of any tip site close to Chelmsford as i've got a job there on Wednesday. Cheers, Ed Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
