  1. The thinner Ash boards are for floorboards, rest of Ash for furniture. Most of the Sycamore will be for turning blanks. I sell most of my milled timber nowadays.
  2. Don't buy a 10 pack of bands from them, buy ripper37 ones form this guy HOME - stephencullblademaster.com
  3. Yes, with the woodlands mill.
  4. I've dried sycamore in the past by sticking out same as all my other timber, not had any issues with staining, but I'll check out the post anyway.
  5. This weeks milling of Ash & Sycamore moved from site to yard today.
  6. The main trunk will be split down with the alaskan and then milled. I can set the mill up alongside the tree so hopefully not much lifting to do.
  7. I've been asked to mill this wind fallen Walnut, so glad I've got a bandsaw mill now. I'll have to break down the main trunk with the alaskan first.
  8. slightly off topic. You say you're felling 10 -20 oaks, have you had to get a felling licence. I only ask because everytime I want to fell over 5 cu/m in any one quarter I have to apply for a felling licence from the Forestry Commission.
  9. Top bloke Steve, I placed an order Monday morning for 10 blades, they arrived Tuesday morning just as I was setting off for a days milling. Great services, just like with you Rob
  10. On that sort of width if you've got a badly cupped board you'll be lucky to get 15mm finished thickness from a 25mm start. Your best bet is to go to the yard and sort it yourself. Are you buying green or air/kiln dried?
  11. Accessibility is always a big factor when buying trees, the more difficult they are to get to and recover the less I want to pay. I've just priced one up at £3hf as access is across a waterlogged field and through deep muddy track.
  12. HOME - stephencullblademaster.com Nice bloke to talk to. Ordered 10 new blades for the mill 30% cheaper then those from woodland mills
  13. Thanks for that, Ill contact him
  14. Has anyone had problems getting the bands resharpened? I've just been told by the company I use for my other machine blades & knives that bandsaw blades are classed as ripping blades and can't be resharpened. Which I believe to be a load of BS as the same company followed up with they can supply me with new blades!
  15. I've not found any cons yet. You have to remember that although it'll take a 30" log it won't cut 30" wide planks, the log has to be turned and the outer sections removed until you get a 22" square block. That's the only real misleading bit of the sales pitch.
  16. You'll be hard pushed to make a living out of it unless you're going into it on a big scale. Otherwise it'll supplement your normal day to day work.
  17. I have no plans for the Cherry or Oak, it all belongs to the guy who payed me to mill his trees.
  18. Yes, the HM130
  19. Can't believe how much easier it is and less back breaking then the alaskan
  20. Just this, didn't get time to take more.
  21. 22" which is fine as not many have planners wider then 16" I've still got the alaskan and 64" bar.
  22. Decent pile of oak & cherry boards milled in a day with the new bandsaw mill. I had to quarter saw the Oak with the alaskan as it was to big to fit the mill so ended up with some stunning grain.
  23. In that case I might mill it into 3/4" boards and use it for the new floor or my trailer!
  24. Because it's free and in the field next to the mill
