  1. I couldn't have out it better myself:thumbup1:
  2. Before I turn the trunk into floorboards I finally convinced the customer that there maybe something else they want made from the tree. I was thinking couple of 2" thick book-matched slabs make a nice table but no, they decided they wanted a 4" thick slab to make an island table, me and my big mouth! Cut in yesterday mornings heat 1 slab of English Walnut 4" x 29" x 108"
  3. I found this and thought some of you might enjoy it. WoodSwimmer: A New Stop-Motion Short Made Entirely by Tediously Cutting Through Wood | Colossal
  4. The trailer cost £1k and I bought it from the guy who is now the UK distributor for woodland mills Chris Pearce. It's fully galvanised with 750kg indespension units. I had to do a few additions, removable wheel arches, ramps. electric winch. mill locking down system for when on the move, the only thing that holds the mill on the rails is gravity and at a weight of 350kg you don't want it dropping off as you pull away.
  5. No doubt you could but any logs I don't want are sold before they're even loaded.
  6. Thanks for the offer steve, you're about 10th in the queue!
  7. It's not my tree I'm being paid to mill it. The guy wants it milling for floorboards and a undercover garden table from 3" slabs.
  8. Did a bit of Walnut milling yesterday, just the branches I'll do the main trunk later this week.
  9. Thanks for the replies, if I ever get round to milling it I'll post pics.
  10. Green wood is best for steam bending. Bone oak won't have sufficient water content. Sent from my D5803 using Arbtalk mobile app
  11. I might have a chance at some Bog Oak has anyone ever tried milling this, how do you go about drying it?
  12. It's about the same noise as a large petrol lawnmower. The rails come in 6' lengths but the head unit takes up 2'.
  13. You can notify plod but I suspect they'll do jack s**t as when I was done last year. I would spread the guys details on every social media site you can find, get it shared as many times as possible. Sent from my D5803 using Arbtalk mobile app
  14. Not a particularly good pic but theses book matched boards @ 2.5" x 17" 9' will make a nice table top when dry
  15. It was a bit, but worth it in the end. How difficult it is to extract and close it is to the road is always reflected in the price I pay. So, this one need in quite a good deal for me.
  16. Extracted a Cherry from the undergrowth on Monday, milled it Tuesday and sticked it out yesterday.
  17. I know this might sound a bit daft but if you buy local made honey and take spoonful a day that will help build your immune system, you can use it in drinks instead of sugar. Sent from my D5803 using Arbtalk mobile app
  18. The more hits your website gets i.e. the more times it gets visited the higher up the listings it will be. Google also like you to have links to other sites, however these need to be relivent to what your website is about.
  19. Built mine nearly 10 years ago, I try to read through it and update with new photos every 2 months or so. English Timber Sales, Milling Services & Furniture Makers Sherwood Forest, Nottinghamshire
  20. This is what I've milled so far, did cut one at 4" then remembered I was moving it on my own so split it in two at 2" I'll have twice as much as this by the end of May.
  21. I've just bought 2 Sycamore stems 24" diameter 20' long what's the ideal thickness to mill them at. I've also been offered some at 36"+ diameter but they're more then I need, so if you're interested PM me.
  22. I had a letter yesterday to tell me Stihl are recalling their MS461, MS461-R, GS461 machines with serial numbers between 173 092 800 and 181 993 952. There's a potential problem on the fuel line that could result in a fire, so I suggest anyone with a machine that falls within those serial numbers take it back to the suppliers and have it repaired free of charge. I can only hope that the little s**t that stole the one I bought last year doesn't know and that it blows up on him:001_smile:
  23. Yeah the bark was left on. I only found out when a customer contacted me to say he'd found them, so I checked other boards in the yard today and sure enough quite a few have holes in the bark. Looks like I've got a few days of unstacking the boards and removing the bark ahead of me.
  24. Anyone know what these are, found them in the sapwood of a couple of Oak boards. I treat the timber with a borax solution twice a year which is supposed to kill unwanted visitors but these seemed to slip pass.
  25. I used to use a 660 with 25" bar as my all round saw. Changed last year to a 461 same size bar, won't go back. Great saw and ideal for side milling. Bought 2 last year, not out of choice first won got nicked along with all my other chainsaws & gear but managed to get the newer one before they naffed it up the electronic carb!
