  13. Icy here in N Devon, more snow forecast. Spent most of the day pulling an artic lorry out from between my and our neighbours house. Sat nav sent him the wrong way!
  14. I reckon that is good value. Wood/log prices are going up, justifiably so! If heating oil has risen from 45p/litre to 65p/litre in 3 months without much murmering from Joe public. Why should firewood producers allow themselves to be shafted by joe public?
  15. Cheers Slack ma girdle and Paul honeybun. Any one know wher i could buy a second hand circular saw?
  16. Hadnt thought about that, it runs a Sitrex 4ft finishing mower at the moment which is Italian. I will check it out and see. Cheers tractorboy
  17. Hi Guys I recently aquired a Kubota B1400 4wd grey import mini tractor. I would like to get more use out of it. Has anyone had experience of running a small sawbench on one? and if so where I might be able to get one? Cheers Nick
  18. Total agreement with you. We use them for cutting willow for short rotation coppice. We can clear much more in a day and easier work than a chainsaw.
  19. Thanks guys for all the good advice, Ive started getting my Christmas Cards sorted, have done a deal with a local golf course and country club, tree work in exchange for timber, but also some free advertising. Just about to do some kerb crawling and dosh out some business cards. Thanks again feeling re-vitalised! Cheers Nick
  20. Like it Gaz1210. Mine is evergreen-gardens.co.uk again self built, still needs a lot of work. Notice you do willow cuttings. I did about 4 seasons of harvesting willow for propagation materials for the biomass industry. Good times. Cheers Nick
  21. No signs of anything lower down the tree, no sunken patches, depressions, no audible differences with my trusty hammer, no cavities. The stem that has degraded is a little too far gone, no bark and woodboring insect damage, I think its been hidden by the ivy for years. But other horizontal branches and some that had recently failed exhibited little or no branch taper. I think their weight has added to their demise.
  22. Its a 29m high Ash tree, with a canopy spread of 22m maximum with a 20 degree lean. mechanical damage to structural roots. The whole tree is unbalanced and has shed some major branches. Its leaning towards a public footpath and the garden is used for educational purposes by the adjacent primary school. Ivy obscures most of the main stem and scaffold branches, hence the climbing inspection. No fungal fruiting bodies present and little decay apparent apart from some major deadwood at 15m in one stem. The major issue was the clients fears of stem failure and deadwood falling from the tree when used by the children from the school and she wanted to know what was best for the tree and everone concerned. I must admit my report did include a few photos a site map and appendix, glossary which padded it out quite a bit!!! Sorry about that guys! Cant wait now for my next one!
  23. Just done my first real (ie paid!!) climbing inspection and full 10 page report, really stoked about it! now ive got my template sorted should be quicker in the future! (sorry if I sound smug... im just chuffed, ive had my PTI for just over a year and havnt used it in anger till today!)
  24. Sorry to hear that breezeblock, but as Andy says, things should pick up in the new year! Cheers Nick
  25. Thanks Andy, thought that might be the case. In retrospect i remember when I first started landscape gardening the first few winters were tough. Now we seem to have built up a good reputation and have landscape work booked even in the leaner times. Thanks for the re assurance. Cheers Nick
