  1. Neither am I! Just doesn't look quite right for gano, too pale, odd shape for resi, no brown spores showing. Closest I can think of is oak poly, but that's not right either. Maybe it is just a gano
  2. Yep, that groove down the stem is the give away
  3. No problem. I may be wrong though! Best wait for Mr Humphries or Croft to pop their head in...
  4. That's a hefty fisti, nice one. You sure that's gano with the chicken though?
  5. Good chance then that something else has caused bark death and decay. This fungi, likely in association with the trees own roots, is recycling the nutrients present in the decaying bark and detritus; feeding the tree with its own rotting body, nice
  6. Almost certainly a mycorhizal bolete. Odd to be on the stem though. I see moss, is the base of the tree often damp? May be that the mycelium from the soil has found a route up the bark furrows/under loose bark...

    Any ideas??

Pics please! Are you doing the clean up? Lucky no one was hurt, how did the house do?
  8. I've not seen it but treelife do a 'short and to the point' version for around £30. I hear good things about it, or try your library to view a full copy?
  9. I think BS are out the question. They must make a fortune selling them, I read somewhere the latest 5837 is the fastest selling ever, if it was freely available here I expect they'd want a small (large) fortune for it! A member nominated book list could be great though, covering all sorts. Carving, milling, climbing, biology etc...
  10. Android tablets are cheap enough, but I still wouldn't go for it. I had a good look, checked out the finer points of their pricing structure, limitations of software, and decided against it. It seemed to me a good way of being stuck paying more as you do more/bigger sites and then being tied to them and wanting to move on to more established and seemingly expensive software. Best bet in my eyes is use one of the many people offering a cad drawing service, it eats profit off a job. But if you are just getting a few jobs and hoping to grow then there's little initial outlay and you can save and get something tried and tested when the time comes. Just my 2p anyway!
  11. I see, shame. Ruthless belt and braces it is then... thank you
  12. Yes all in the same green house. I'm not too fussed about the toms, but I'd be gutted if the chilies were buggered too. How can I tell if its blight, and if it is will it get the chilies?
  13. I've not read this yet, could someone please explain how it differs from drop-crotching? Sounds very similar...
  14. Little help please! After my radish and kale has almost vanished in a haze of caterpillars, my tomatoes are now suffering. It's the marmande variety suffering most. A few days ago it looked like a few growing tips looking dull and willing, lack of water I thought... now random leaves, shoots, fruits and in one case the stem base are willing with dark almost brown discolouration. My sun baby, gardeners delight, money maker and garden pearl seem ok at the moment, I think. Also they are in pots while the marmande are in grow bags. Can I save them?! More importantly, are my chilies which are doing great in the same greenhouse at risk? Any advice appreciated
  15. Looks like a decent set up, what's it in aid of?
  16. So what are you using? Time got away from me today and ended up spending the day doing 'nice family things' at a horrendously busy and hot zoo! Still, 3 weekdays left to call and order...
  17. Of course there are many, many factors influencing root growth. And I really should get and read Trees; Their natural History, I keep hearing good things about it! I was if there is a list similar to that on p.57 of TRIBE, perhaps a bit longer/more detailed?
  18. Nicely done, I'm slightly jealous...
  19. Nice one on the new job Rob all that hard work paying off. If you don't mind the nosiness, who'd you get in with?
  20. Pear Techs wares, easy enough for a techno-dunce like me to use! Parting with my hard earned is on this weeks to do list
  21. Also try a look on uktc archives, or pose a question. I got very good off forum responses which lead to very interesting phone calls, much advice and help with decision making...
