  1. Hi Jessica thanks for 'popping in'. Can I ask if this is a service you provide other than for the purposes of this raffle?
  2. Here we go again! If the tree is in a CA you notify the council of your intention to fell the tree. They cannot refuse permision, because you are not asking for it; their only option to prevent you felling it is to serve a TPO within 6 weeks of your (s211) notification of intent to carry out tree works.
  3. Good luck everyone and well done to all who helped organise the raffle
  4. That'd be good thanks. I fully intended bidding on this one but got distracted by other things. Oh well!
  5. Great documentation as always What are your thoughts on the theory of there being two sub-types of M giganteus?
  6. I would've paid more! Missed out on that one. Still, available on google play for a similar price. Just not the same as a real book...
  7. Boy things have changed there! Looked nicer before...

    Bug Fung

3 year old daughter on a bug hunt! Knee deep in mud looking for worms the next day, while my 1 year old son painted his hair a glittery blue before adding heart stickers to it too- gender stereotypes don't seem to apply at that age, still, he likes anything with wheels and an engine so all hope is not lost!

    Bug Fung

Fungal mycelium breaking free of this Rosemary Beetle through the joints in its exoskeletal shell - a Cordycep of some sort? Sorry for poor pic quality
  10. Agreed, far too complicated! I have a question or two too, I'll come back to this later...
  11. Thank you for all the replies Thats 8 years with good care worn out and about with countless trips in woods etc, once up Nevis and many times up Snowdon. The padding around the ankles has been worn through for a couple of years now, but still comy. All round good boots I reckon Plenty on Google it would seem, not keen on riggers though. (Mink oil- I have a mental image of tens of mink being 'pressed' for their oil!) Looks good... Very nice, if only there was a main retailer nearby! Hmmm, a trip to my local army surplus shop may be on the cards... Thanks all
  12. Hi all, after some advice for decent and hopefully not too expensive boots. I've had ankle high Trezzeta boots for the last 8 years (not as work boots) with daily heavy use on and 'off road', they've lasted really (for £80 sale boots) well but now I can't get them to stay waterproof and the vibram soles are almost smooth! So I'm not fussed about steel caps/chainsaw protection as I'm not looking for a work boot. Just a comfortable boot for traipsing across wet fields and puddles while keeping my feet DRY. I don't mind paying good money for a good product, as long as it lasts. So, recommendations are...
  13. The arbtalk fungi app is pucka, the aa arborists field guide is also good and the latest photographic Collins guide is a good all rounder with less focus on trees and fungi. All reasonably priced too
  14. Yes inches, sorry! Alec, if you pm me your number I'll pass it on and you can have a chin wag about the finer points. Nice and easy, go Arbtalk might just get me some more raffle tickets now
  15. Great stuff good use of Christmas choccy boxes, but I think the boot is my favourite
  16. Please see thread in milling forum...
  17. Hi, my dad is looking for an English oak mantlepiece to go in his very old oak beamed house (17/18th century, I think ). Plenty of French oak available online but it's just not the same. Am I right in thinking seasoned would be better than green, to avoid the plaster cracking as it dries and moves? If anyone can supply maybe post a pic here, delivery to Colchester or could pick up if local. Measurements around 6 foot long and 8 or 9 foot square, I'll post up accurate dimensions when I get them. (Might not matter if one side is rough as it could go 'in' the wall.) Thanks in advance, Kev
  18. Thanks for pitching in, good to hear a version of events leading to the decision to fell straight from the horses mouth...
  19. Colchester arts centre, never seen him live and my birthday is in March too so double celebration
  20. Tickets to Lee Scratch Perry in March, can't wait
  21. Without bothering to read through the whole thread, as I can see from here where it's headed, this comment just about sums up my view on Christmas day working. Everyone is in a different position with different needs/wants, no one is stupid for working/not working certain days.
  22. Certainly not just you with that problem, especially annoying when the 'thread' includes other topics or emails which aren't in date/time order! On another note this is a good topic with good input, I may even formulate some sort of post if I get time! Keep up the good work
  23. If the neighbour was concerned the other trees may be an issue I don't see why he couldn't request they be included in the report - as long as no trespass occured all the consultant did was look at another person's tree, nothing legally wrong with that. However, it would have been prudent to alert the neighbour to his intentions. If your customer doesn't like the recommendation, rather than feeling bullied into removing it he could commission his own report, looking at options (if any) for retention.
