  2. What's the local topography like Graham. Any high hills surrounding the Tree? Scolytus don't fly too high, so could be a reason for it missing your stunner. Thanks for posting, I missed the English Elms whilst growing up. Had me head in footy mags Wish I'd put my head up more often .

  4. Pitty the poor TO that goes poking around for Fungi Haven't heard or seen that one before. Plenty of foxes right in the heart of the the big smoke though. Gotta admit, that's pretty darn oportunistic aint it? They must live with continual noise and vibration, crazy arsed dingos Should get Andrew or Marcus to do a TI on it without telling them whats inside. That'll sure play havock with the "Tree Thermal Matrix Software" Where in West London Paul. .
  5. This is the view across the City of London from kite hill on Hampstead Heath. The panorama is to be maintained for the viewing publics pleasure, so although not the most ideal time of the year, here we are 10 years on from the last reduction doing it again Canary Warf to the left, Natwest and Gherkin centre stage & St Pauls floating around the rhs. As you can see I had the most technical and important job to carry out from a most uncomfortable vantage point........ And ftr, that is my winter plumage I'm still sporting, and a low camera angle to boot Oh yeah musn't forget, NuttyArb did alright up in the Tree aswell. .

  15. I am leaning toward our Scottish friend, using the West Coast venacular styley, as being akin to the extraction of urine, as opposed to the alternative entrance that provides one with a more solid evacuation .
  16. Nice shots Peter. Looks like you and the Missus had yourselves a grand time. Pleurotus looks like P.cornucopiae . Can't leave the mention of such a great track without a wee blast [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mV9AwB-DnoI[/ame] .

  18. Here's what I see as G. applanatum on Dead Beech from yesterdays stroll down t'woods Thinner rim than adspersum, crust cracks uunder a thumb nail and perenially hosting here on dead/dysfunctioning wood. .
  19. A budding climber and mycologist ........... "So why do these Oysters not live in the sea dad?" .
  20. Not all kids entertainment has to involve batteries or a plug. Just a sprinkling of imagination, and away they go.......... .
  21. Second shot looks like Tree Beard. Nice work Paul. Where's the Ash? Hatfields got an event on (re-cutting lappsed pollard/coppicing) I think it's on the 28th. Gonna try and get booked on. .
  22. Good link Tim I feel that any given Tree is probably already exposed to the potential Mycorr in it's immediate locality. Suppose creating or returning a root plate to a healthy growing environment is the likely key. Watched a contractor/consultant apply a generic mix of endo and ectophytic micorr into the root zone of an Oak Vet on thursday, whilst aerating. De-compaction was the primary concern with this tree, the addition of Micorr is a bonus, but quantifiable? .
  23. Hope this honest and open account, can inspire others to initiate more posts for the benefit of both the new and old hands who need the occasional heads up (myself included) Cliche - but we do all learn from experience. This truly is the essence of the site. Good post Andy. Heal quick old chap .
  24. Steve it wouldn't be the leaf minor that has killed the HC you took down. They were first recorded in the Uk in Wimbledon/London in 2001/2002. It's highly unlikely that the spread would of got to you as quick as you suggest. Possibly could of been Guignardia leaf blotch which has similar symptoms, but again I don't think even this would have killed your Tree. You say there were no lesions, could it have possibly been Armillaria/Honey fungus? http://www.forestry.gov.uk/fr/INFD-68JJRC http://www.rhs.org.uk/advicesearch/Profile.aspx?pid=200 http://www.forestresearch.gov.uk/fr/INFD-6KYBGV Look forward to the photos .
  25. Hope you gave her one last cuddle before you dispatched her Novel way of creating future works, by ramming the other Tree in the last shot with the truck Nice picture set Butch, particularly like the way you've taken the time to show the trunk decay .
