  1. Darn it, shouldn't of said anything should I. This means a multi continous rogues gallery of your mugshot from now on, don't it .
  2. Nice shots Butch, except maybe the last one Btw, attachment shots are now unlimited. Upload the permitted 5, then before submitting add some more, and so on .
  3. Data I have from DARM at Middlesex Uni has 50 UK deaths attributed directly to Tree failure between Dec 99 and Oct 08. Thats roughly 5 p/a average. Interesting that both figures are quite different. Any idea how far ONS data goes back Marcus? .
  4. What makes you qualified to pass judgement on the efforts of us wannabe Radnitzkys .
  5. As I'm still waiting to hear back from the Guys at the Geneva Convention, in relation to my banning of winning the top prize, I am reluctantly holding back from mixing it with the big boys. In me dreams But here's a triumvirate of flowering wonder that I snapped this morning on the way up to the allotment with the lads. Prunus spinosa - natures first big spring show. Salix caprea - unfortunately named, as any affiliation to the Devil is hardly warranted. & really tickled with the third as it's the very first ever flower on me Cercis siliquastrum, which was really struggling last summer. Mulching appears to have had a part to play http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=2626 .
  6. It was moved Dave, it's still accessable pm sent .
  7. Have done, but only leave up for a few months. Usually extolling the virtues of standing dead timber, and its place in the cycle of fungal, lichen, invertebrate and bird interaction. .
  8. Hope you don't mind David, but I wanna play too ........... Can ya guess who's comming to dinner? .
  9. Where's me plaque? Hope it's not the crappy piece of wood nailed to the base .
  10. Here's a Beech which copped it and was reduced to Monolith back in Dec 04. Last shot is from Oct 08. Hadn't tried the BPS at this stage Stevie .
  11. Have fumbled about creating nooks and crannies for a while. Rustics the name of the game, no points sought for style. What has anyone else tried. Here's a windblown pop hung up in a vet Oak. Released and high stumped back in April 07. Last shots are from this week. Some signs of old nesting. .
  12. Awaiting some dates from you Marcus Intriguing I'm all agog with anticipation .
  13. You'd need at least five kids to save shots between these posts On a serious note, compaction is an issue with kids organised footy in this particular park. so to this end we're carrying out a mulching program, if only to get the kids to congregate pre game elsewhere. You can see the leaning Red Oak I Dmp'd, to the lhs of the last picture .
  14. Imo Drew, whether this fungus is a saprohite (ie applanatum) or parasite (ie australe) I would see the main cause for concern to be the dynamic state of the brackets, which is clearly shown by the current growth of the lower tiers. This would suggest the decay process is still very much active. Have the council proscribed a reduction with or without carrying out decay detection to quantify and evaluate the extent of remaining sound wood of the basal area of this tree. Do you know? My gut instinct, based on the photo and the known lean toward an urban target, would be removal or reduction (= ?) with strict adherance to annual inspection including the above criterior. .
  15. That would be the Imperial War Museum in Lambeth Stevie. You missed a treat, if you're ever back in the neighbourhood with your younguns, make sure you go in next time you uncultured swine .
  16. Nice shot Tim. Is that around Loch Fyne? .
  17. Another Beech from work, this one a multi stemmed probable pollard . Grafted branches all over through out the cannopy. Are these trunks self bracing, or is that statement really as stupid as it sounds ? .
  18. So my list now counts; Beech Lime Sycamore Norway Maple Birch Still haven't either had the oportunity to disect a host, or post-witness a failure yet. Here on an un-Id'd stump, way out on a dead Beech root, another Beech (dead) trunk, & Norway Maple .
  19. I was quite sceptical of the project when you first mentioned it, soley based on a perceived lack of ecological respect, but having now seen the visual and sensed the reverence given over to the entire process, it has changed my opinion completely. What a fantastic project and celebration of the majesty of TREE. Thumbs up to all involved. Look forward to seeing it in the flesh. Nice one Will, great post. .
  20. Oooh Oooh, does this mean I get a shot at the mystery third prize .
  21. Nice one Carl...........you got a caledonian/Israeli heritage? Justins gonna have a surplus of Stein cubes now .
  22. Oooohhh nasty Nice typical shot at the end Tony .
  23. Great update and shots. Nice work Drew .
  24. http://www.hse.gov.uk/pubns/afag401.pdf Point 15 under PPE .
