  1. Wow that place looks really nice but just a bit to far to drive at the mo with money tight i will have to take my wife to a hotel and visit cheers tony .Im looking at more of a forest joe for tomorrow but will have to go there also.Ok thats it im off to burnham beeches pics to follow.

  6. lucky me i have the day off tomorrow i also have my three boys to look after and was wondering what is the best place to take them I live in chelmsford and dont want to travel to far so any ideas for woodlands like above . And before you ask and how dare you it has not got anything to do with fungi hunts vet tree hunts or anything of that nature:001_rolleyes: .Ok maybe just a bit:thumbup:

Hello just wondered would the fluting be from the tree being planted high when at a nursery stage or maybe their was a pathogen but it was not present at the time of the pic I now kretz likes a bit of lime their dosent seem to be much epicormic at the base and the tree looks in good health but must be responding to some kind of stress because of the fluting.

  11. Hi tony the area is open to the public and i was not looking in any way shape or form to do anything to the tree but look at the fungi on it and visualy monitor condition from time to time:thumbup:

Yes QR .Its right next to a road and has still got a nice crown on it good height and spread i will visit this one again in september this year and see what s going on with it .I was so happy to spot it i leaped over the wire fence i think my mate got a bit stuck LOL . From what i have read in books and threads on here it is quite a nasty one but on larger trees not as bad this is just what i have read i only will be taking what i can from books now and will let mother nature show me whats really going on by getting out there in the field .So many factors

Just thought i would make a thread about this moth because it is one of my favorite bugs i have seen while doing tree work on site.I dont know loads about the moth but it is said to cause harm by laying its eggs in the base of poplar trees the grubs feed on the cambium and exit leaving cigar sized holes at the base of the tree.I can only go on experience and would say on the site i was working on that a lot of trees had fallen over .Anyway i like the look of it and here it is:001_cool:
