well, i was putting on my chainsaw boots this morning when i felt something under my heel, like my sock hadn't straightened out right or something. i thought i can probably live with it but curiosity got the better of me & i had a look & it was a fiver! also yesterday i put a fiver in my back pocket on my ballistics then thought i'd take it out & put it somewhere different & it was a tenner!!! fifteen quid in total not much i know but every little counts...

yes, somewhere between penrith & carlisle. so far a great bit of kit. my only complaint is it's petrol & thirsty!

Got some extra pictures too: The Space on the trailer is great as i gcan reverse right up to it & either load logs ready to split or just move them across straight from my truck which saves some effort...

Well i wouldn't charge less than £15 an hour for splitting by hand. If they don't like that then go to lidl & buy an axe & find out how much labour is involved! I find using a tyre takes a lot of the strain out of it... Picked this up last week. It's home made but a pretty good-un! The guys dad's got a whole work shop & they do agricultural engineering if you know what i mean. It's been put together pretty well & does the job nicely... Off to split some more wood now & then test them with my new Moisture Meter from Maplins (Thought i'd treat myself )

i'm still looking for that ever elusive bit of "retrospect". like you said every day is a learning day! i went back to a womans house (only 3 miles away) about 5 times last year for a lousy £15 for grass cutting... believe me i would have quite happily let her keep the money if i could have just slapped her a couple of times

my short answer to this is no.

personally i'd go over & pickup the cash (might be a cheque). then you can both look at the finished work (or gap where there was a tree) & all the memories of what a wonderful job you did will come flooding back to her! you'll end up chatting about other possible work & she'll have a fresher opinion of you & more than likely recomend you to some friends too. without sounding harsh, if someone turned up on my doorstep & asked for more money for driving to come & get it, firstly they wouldn't get it. secondly, it would create bad vibes, & thirdly i most certainly wouldn't recomend them to anyone, in fact quite the opposite. take the diesel hit on the chin, enjoy the drive & smile. You never know you might even come across a new job on the way there & back........

very nice piece of kit mate. i'm impressed. i just missed out on a trailer mounted home made one (hydraulic running off a power pack) on ebay. but a friend of mine has suggested we build our own one. he knows how, so i said ok... looks like you're going to have lots of fun with your new toy!
