  1. I dont really know what you are trying to say zeroluke, i originate in the north west of the country, dont kid your self that everyone south of Watford gap is loaded, i know lots of lads back home (tradesmen) that earn similar sorts of money as lads down here in Suffolk and dont have any where near the amount of out goings, ie house prices are double in some parts of east anglia than they are in some parts of the north west, so if lets say a joiner in Suffolk is charging £160 a day (i know this is the price i've got one coming to fit a new door for me tommorow)and my mate is charging £150 a day in the north west, my mate in the north west will have more dispossible income at the end of each week. ps and another thing to remember is everyone south of watford gap is'nt a cockney:lol:
  2. Hi Keith where abouts in west Suffolk are you.
  3. Hi jonny, start a thread in the firewood bit as long as you can get it roadside with access for an artic you shouldnt have to much trouble shifting it. as for price it depends if you are buying the standing timber or if you are being paid to cut it and the customer wants to sell the wood.
  4. I have the same problem geoff, dont half fell a cupid stunt at times:biggrin:
  5. Sure is, but Ben offered it at £250 that was his opening gambit.
  6. Back to my post yesterday, how do the lads in Yorkshire who are buying in your cordwood at £45 m3 roadside make money selling logs if you can't get £80 m3 for logs ?
  7. What did it go for in the end?
  8. sounds close enough to me, i dont think you will get anything cheaper than £30 odd quid a week, what other bills will you have on top of the rent ie water, electricity, business rates, insurance these all need taking into account, remember if you are only doing firewood it might be difficult to cover all these costs during the summer months, im not trying to put you off, just want you to know what you are letting yourself in for, remember if you sign the contract on the building and are not earning enough money you will still have to pay the rent until the contract ends.
  9. The haulage was £15+vat per tonne as it came quite a distance which made a total of £1,350 for the lorry load delivered in to my yard.
  10. Just paid £30+vat per tonne roadside for a mix of oak, silver birch and ash.
  11. I really dont know how you Yorkshire lads make any money in the log game, what with cord being £45+vat per tonne roadside, plus haulage at lets say £10 per tonne+vat, and lets say you get 25 tonne on an artic that works out at £64 per tonne....Wow.
  12. Tom your dead right, i dont think many of the arbs/tree surgeons on here would rush out on a Monday morning if those were the terms and conditions. Infact i might just ring my local tree company in the morning and suggest that they come and look at a tree in my back garden and tell them that i will pay what i think the job was worth at the end of the day. Not many will turn up to look at the job imo.
  13. Try this guy, looks like he is willing to post things. ford transit tipper pick up for parts o/s mirror sorry link didnt work, will try again
  14. What year is the pick? is it steel or alloy?
  15. Excellent post, it seems on this forum that some people can write posts that make not a lot of sense to the masses without anyone putting them striaght, thanks for putting in to words what i struggle to.
  16. As for the first part of your post, this was the first forum i took part in, in earnest, i have dipped in and out of others in the past, but thats about it. i have also volunteered in the past but that does not pay the bills, its the neighbourly thing to do. i will help any body, but not when it comes to my business, or me earning a living, and as for the contradicting my opinion what do you mean? and my query was: does this only happen in arb work, or do members have experiences elsewhere?
  17. Only asking, as i've worked in a few different industries over the years including the building trade, road maintenance and the wastewater industry and i've never known it before
  18. Did you have time to take a run around yet zeroluke, if so how did you get on?
  19. what wood are you selling is it hardwood/softwood or a mix of both?
  20. pretty much the same has hullsmill, never cut a tree for financil gain, just a plain old firewood merchant, most of the guys on here would cry with laughter if they saw the set up we have.
  21. Now then Glyn welcome aboard
