  1. I’ve not given you an arsey reply, I’ve tried to answer you reasonably.
  2. Sorry! I thought I’d posted a screenshot of the salary from the lady who was advertising the job? I’m fairly sure see said £40k If they employ inexperienced staff I’m not sure.
  3. No, that’s for someone with experience who would be out on their own in a company van.
  4. This simply is not true, £40k on the books isn’t cutting it around Stoke, very few are entering the trade. More are leaving it. I’ll ask again, what are ‘we’ going to do about it?
  5. Do you want to go back and read the title of the thread.
  6. That’s what the media would have us believe, I don’t see it though.
  7. I realise you are a bit slow on the subject, but those of us who are in our fifties and worked for big companies had perks that aren’t available to most these days, but we had them and took advantage of them. Are you going to try to answer the original question or not?
  8. It’s a fair answer, who’s going to fill the jobs ‘we’ leave? I don’t see youngster rushing down drains.
  9. No one mentioned arbs, and you won’t swing the argument your way by mentioning it. You mentioned tradesmen, £25k isn’t near for a self employed tradesman. I paid in the maximum I could which was matched by the company I worked for, I’ve also paid into a private pension, and let me assure you I don’t need £1500/month. And this is why, imo people are leaving the job market. You of course could be different.
  10. Going back to your, with a trade, how many good tradesmen are on £25k?
  11. Really, I’ve been in a manual job all my life, I’ve paid into company and private pension's. Simon from Stoke.
  12. That doesn’t answer the question, if people are pulling out of the job market in their mid fifties who’s going to do the work required?
  13. Listening to the wireless just now, the topic is, people in their 50’s leaving work behind. I bumped into a fella I used to go to school with at the local remembrance parade on Sunday, his plan is to finish at 55 when his pension kicks in, mine also kicks in in 3 years time, and I’ll probably slowdown when it does. If we all pack in, or slowdown at 55 what will be the end result?
  14. £40-45k/year-but you won’t be getting £45k.
  15. My Dear Wife, You will surely understand that I have certain needs that you, being 57 years old, can no longer satisfy. I am very happy with you and I value you as a good wife. Therefore, after reading this letter, I hope that you will not wrongly interpret the fact that I will be spending the evening with my 18 year old secretary at the Comfort Inn Hotel. Please don't be upset----I shall be home before midnight. When the man came home late that night, he found the following letter on the dining room table: My Dear Husband, I received your letter and thank you for your honesty about my being 57 years old. I would like to take this opportunity to remind you that you are also 57 years old. As you know, I am a math teacher at our local college. I would like to inform you that while you read this, I will be at the Hotel Fiesta with Michael, one of my students, who is also the assistant tennis coach. He is young, virile, and like your secretary, is 18 years old. As a successful businessman who has an excellent knowledge of math, you will understand that we are in the same situation, although with one small difference - 18 goes into 57 a lot more times than 57 goes into 18. Therefore, I will not be home until sometime tomorrow..
  16. I was teasing you, I knew what you meant.
  17. You should steer clear of vole jobs, unless you’re a pest controller.
  18. Took me a moment.
  19. Nah, he was fine in my eyes, mum didn’t suffer fools gladly though. I’ve not seen hide nor hair of him since he made the big time… Shocking, hey.
  20. It went over my head, for a change…
  21. Most have, but not consistently.
  22. Is that the same Rob Williams who I grew up with in Tunstall, the one my old girl used to turn out on his ear when she’d heard enough of him?
  23. Why, thank you. I’m sure they are out there, but I don’t know them.
  24. I was talking about this with a very educated chap who comes off good stock, neither of us have ever known anyone that earns £600+/hour. Legally.
