  1. yeah i think so stephen, i didnt notice it until i saw the pic
  2. i was quite far out, but like u say the union looks solid, and by the way Skyhuck i do weigh 13.5 stone, but im over 6 ft tall so im not fat, anyway im sure i heard some1 say muscle is hevier than blubber !!!!!!!!!!!!!
  3. crown cleaning this oak today and out on a limb, quite suprised when this failed on me , however it made me think that Gibbon was right to bottle the other day because i wasnt even suspicious of this and it decided to go.
  4. georgeous ben, i luv collies, heres mine, he is home bred, 3 years old and a proper menace
  5. Going back to loading the mewp....if I'm out full stretch and need to cut a branch, I put on two slings, crab them together and cut between, let the branch dangle then slowly take the weight of the branch whilst keeping an eye on the warning lights in the basket. i think i have only used a sling once, on my chainsaw in a tree assessment:biggrin: as to loading the mewp, i cant really say what my normal practice is:lol:
  6. ive been watching this post witgh interest and have to say that i admire skyhuck's honesty, so im gonna be honest even if i get shot down. What i want to say is this, i mostly use a top handled with 1 hand, i find it easier, quicker, and it some situations (particularly cutting and holding) safer, to use it one handed. I also use it left handed in some situations. I have never come close to cutting myself.
  7. thats because tree surgeons are masculin, egotistical, testosterone filled, adrenaline junkies who need therapy and should have paid attention at school. p.s (i dont mean to offend any1, its just a lighthearted quip:thumbup:)
  8. no it isnt, i personally wouldnt, but what i am saying is there are some people who are nuts and thrive off of getting taking the most dangerous risks possible, i wouldnt say that the person in question is a good climber (having cut himself twice once loosing 4 pints) but he will do anything irresponsible of the risk, its not a healthy attitude i know, but i do have a sense of admiration for his guts. (And of course ill stand up for my own flesh and blood:thumbup:)
  9. what do u mean ignorance? this is a third gereration surgeon
  10. he has never bottled anything, in fact i fully expect that he would be happy to free climb to the top of that tree in ur pic, he's off his head:001_smile:
  11. ahh, poor little tree, i hope you gave it a hug:001_smile:
  12. just wondered wether u hav to wear saw trousers if u are using a silky or a hedgecutter, also do u hav to have a guy with areial rescue ifu are only using a silky? much appreciate:001_smile:
  13. im not a fan of the dogs tooth, that exact thing happened on my assesment, instructor asked me to demo a dos tooth on what he said was a heively weighted tree, i thought to myself he must be looking at a different tree, told him i thought it wasent necessary, anyway he made me do it and when i put the back cut in the tree stayed where it was, managed to get it down with wedges
  14. no you idiot, look at my profile pic
  15. nah, the guy with the big thumb has graduated from hero to legend!!!
  16. no, he is a brilliant climber though, but im thinking more of a completely rounded surgeon of distinction
  17. i only hav 1 hero in tree work and i think you know who that is????
  18. better a live coward that a dead hero
  19. up a dead silver birch on spikes and the wood was really pulpy, i decided not to go right up and dismantle but knock the top out instead, when i did this the tree started creaking, when i finally got to the bottom it was completly hollow and i was shaking for about 10 mins, another time i lowered a top out and it cam back and clatered into the mewp, guys on the ground said it looked like it was going over, i came down and changed me pants!!!!!!!!!!!
  20. i luv the pickers, wats the point in climbing and having those beautiful machines sat in the yard???
