  1. Something the wife and I have got going over the last three years. I wanted a way out of this industry when I get too old to hack working in the rain. They're booked up until mid september right now. There's good fungi hunting (hamadryad) in the oak woods behind the yurts (although I wish I could take a saw to the rhodies) and some quite peculiar moribund woods of mature and decaying oak, beech and alder tothe side. There's some awesome heritage trees on site, (ancient sweet chentnut with estimates between 400-1400), trees with unbelievable epiphytes for the uk, and generally a nice place to kick back and relax. Winter is a good time to come. The last one was a beautiful. Clear, dry and crisp. Snow around to play. Toasty warm inside. Even better, you get to burn someone elses wood too!
  2. If you head to skye then the walking into the Quiraing is great. Volcanic spires and plugs make it quite an unlikely place. Surprised no ones used it in a film yet. A visit to the upper or lower table is very scenic or a walk along the ridge. You don't have to be a climber to get there. Quiraing, Skye - Panoramic Earth Travel Information

  4. with thanks to Steve for allowing this thread... I'd like to extend a 10% discount to all arbs. Full Circle Luxury Yurts in the Lake District Just quote my username if you call. FULL CIRCLE - lake district yurts / yurts holidays uk
  5. Don't know. Am speaking for the lake district national park. Here all tree works in the park go through the parks own tree officers. The council have nothing to do with it. You could always calling them and saying a branch has fallen off and hit someone, can they come round straight away or else you're going to sue them!
  6. I imagine you'll love the tree scenes in avatar. (and the 15ft scantily clad blue aliens climbing them)
  7. I'm with you on the transdimensional vibration bollocks (my own opinion of course) that the book concludes with.
  8. national parks act in part like a local council on planning issues
  9. Have you been watching avatar too much last night? now they new about tree worship and would make great arbs. Seriously though, the tree worship was the most interesting part of that film for me. It's a little low brow in comparison to some of your quotes but the vision of the future in the Celstine Prophecy I think had each community revolving around a grove of heritage trees for there spiritual focus.
  10. looked up my home address and saw the trailer that was nicked 9 months ago

Unexpected treebound objects??? Anyone else found frog spawn up a tree before? Two clumps on a large oak 5&7m up. I've got a strange visual in my head of a black bird biting down on its catch at the top of the tree and the momma froggie exploding, need your 's on. Back there tomorrow. Will take a camara.
  16. hey there ed, got your request. who are you? graham???

  17. That article was unfortunate. The way the journalist wrote implied things out of context. I was trying to promote the ethic or replacement tree planting and get some free advertising to boot. Nothing but trying to put food on the table. I've no beef against any other arb in the area. I've no desire for any. If there's still some lingering please say so and I'll call to clear the air.
  18. I'm always keen to learn jp. If there's a job I've done that you think I should have done differently please ring me up for a chat and i'll talk it through with you. I wouldn't spike a pruning job unless it be a sequoia. please inform me of otherwize. The only stubs I've left intentionally are pollards.
  19. eagle eyes on that ms 200 My wife was looking over my shoulder and between your topless pics and tractor boys avatar was wondering if it was some gay tree surgeons dating site .
  20. I think this should be an industry standard built into our prices. Could tree planting be put into the curriculum of NPTC CS30/31
  21. Concious of the fact that I know very little... Any good online resources on tree planting?
  22. starting small and only buying kit when i can't beg borrow or steal it + not having all my eggs in one basket (FULL CIRCLE - lake district yurts / yurts holidays uk)
  23. trees and people need moderators and we're them. a completely necessary profession. however since we all make a fairly good living from our proficient arbocidal habits shouldn't we be proactive in replenishing the stock?
  24. cleanest back wheel going:biggrin:
  25. I was wondering what being an ethical tree surgeon would entail... Should active tree planting be considered an intrinsic part of this? or
