  1. Could you use a knut hitch? Should adjust one handed and not need a pulley..
  2. Mmm, I'm tempted to get a 150m rope now hahaha:thumbup1: How sad is that:blushing:
  3. When you find out let me know I had enough trouble finding a Kong Robot for a bit of increased friction above my hitch on SRT. Or try making a rope wrench. I did and it works pretty well I would love to try a unicender though
  4. Hahaa I know a few of them. And I have climbed one:biggrin:
  5. I would agree. It has to be the most versatile technique and as mentioned if you tie your climbing system into the end of the static line you would only need 100m of rope for a fully lowerable system for trees where the TIP is less than 50m. I cant think of many trees than are bigger than 50m in the UK. If you know where there are any let me know:laugh1:
  6. Fairly low I would think if you know what you are doing
  7. Yea that is a good idea. Just important to remember that if you do that it is still essentially a ground anchored SRT system in terms of the forces at the TIP ie double your weight on the anchor point so you cant tie in quite a high as if you were on a normal climbing system. Sorry if I am stating the obvious. On the plus side the rope only has to then be twice the length of the height to the anchor point
  8. If you are just using it for access I dont see much point in making it lowerable. 99% of your work is going to be done from the normal climbing line and that cant be lowered by ground staff. If on the otherhand you are working the whole tree using SRT with a unicender or rope wrench then making your system lowerable is a great idea. Just my humble opinion.
  9. Cheers. It's not finished just yet. Needs a lot of sanding to smooth out the rough bits. I was too excited about testing it out to worry at the time:blushing:
  10. Yup That is why a small sling would be better than the maillon. Or a spare hitchclimber
  11. Similar, but you couldnt put a sling in between your harness and the bottom carabiner and have it advance smoothly like a hitchclimber. And it doesn't minimise all of the clutter on your bridge like a hitch climber.
  12. But that defeats the point of making it like a hitchclimber:confused1:
  13. Use a small dyneema sling instead Rob? Or get one of the pinto pulleys. Honey bros just started stocking them!
  14. I made my own version of Kevin Bingham's singing tree rope wrench over the weekend. It is made out of boxwood. About 9 inches long and 2x2inches wide. The hole for the climbing line is about 14/15mm because I am using 13mm rope. For the accessory cord holes about 11mm as Im using 10mm friction cord to attatch to the hitchclimber. The hole for the climbing line is at approximately 45 degrees to the plane of the wrench. These were the directions Kevin gave me. It's not the ideal piece of wood for the job as it had a few small cracks. But boxwood is very dense and hard so it should be pretty good for the job. To be honest, I didnt think it would be that great or much of an improvement climbing on a single line for the whole tree but for the little amount of time I have used it so far it has been very good:thumbup1: Ive got a kong robot coming in the post to try also. When Kevin gets his alloy rope wrench into production I will be getting one; apparently it is going to be attachable mid-line too which is a plus.
  15. Haha fair enough. I would quite like to get some but I guess there would be issue with CE marking etc..
  16. Old snake did a ropeguide with 5mm wire inserted into the large eye i think. Guess that would do the trip and wouldnt wear out

  18. Stitching thee crossover really makes things easier i find. Old Snake showed me at Jonsies show and it has make life a lot easier.
  19. Nice video! Where did you get hold of blue moon in the UK Highscale?
  20. Good on you Mario. Great thread too. Thanks
  21. Has anyone tried the 10mm armor pruss? Looks like it could be good on 13mm rope:thumbup1:
  22. x 3!
  23. good stuff
  24. Paraphrasing Aldous Huxley? Or is that your own genius seeping through?
  25. hhahaha yes what a fantastic idea. The only trouble is if I am in Amsterdam it is unlikely I would be capable of operating a saw
