  1. I know someone who would like that. I bet it has a ridiculous price to got along with the ridiculous design. Definitely for people with more money than sense!
  2. Surely if there is a recall from Stihl on these saws he would get his full money back from where he bought it from. As Stihl are now not allowing internet sales it must have been a local purchase. It is second hand if he sells it and wont get nearly as much from a buyer as he would from a refund. Maybe there is something dodgy about this saw (apart from it being a crap saw)
  3. An expensive way to learn a lesson in basic procedures like checking your chain brake works before you use the saw, and if it doesn't work getting it fixed before you use it. Not everyone gets away so lightly. Bet your mum and dad gave you hell for the sake of a few quid. The main thing is you will remember this for the rest of your life and are unlikely to repeat it. This is why most of us have more than one saw and can put the non working one to the side and use one that works properly. If you only have one saw it can be tempting to use it as 'its only a wee log and I cant come to any harm'
  4. Hi Eddie I use Meldrums in Cupar for my Stihl spares (01334652561). They are the only Stihl main dealer in Fife and sell everything such as chainsaws, strimmers , ride on mowers and piles of everything. At the other end of Fife in Inverkeithing is Scottish Grass Machinery who are a large concern and in the last couple of years have started to do chainsaws and other arb gear. 08004320440 Mike
  5. What about fibreglass. I repaired my auxiliary oil tank for milling and it has held ok. Bit of an overkill job and it sure doesn't look pretty but it does the job.
  6. Which file guide size do you use Daddyola with a 5.2mm file?
  7. Hi Eddie How about targeting some suppliers in Fife. My nearest supplier is over 30 miles away? Mike
  8. I get about a dozen or so trees a year to fell and remove for my business landlord a year. I am getting fed up carting away the brash and I am investigating a small dia chipper, probably not more than 50mm at the most. Anything bigger than that gets kept for firewood. Not every tree's brash has to be removed, just maybe about half of them. Anyone got any recommendations (doesn't have to be new). I don't want to hire one in as then I am committed to doing the job on certain days
  9. A few degrees minus now and a clear sky. Going to take ages to scrape the van windscreen tomorrow. This is where I get my weather forecasts from. Windy Wilson, tells it as it is and, unlike the Met Office, has a few wee choice words. He is quite funny and has a large following https://www.facebook.com/windywilson.weather.roads
  10. Got the saw working yesterday. Will use it properly over the next few days. I found a print out in the workshop from a wee while ago, its from an American website , but it has all the original part numbers listed. Husqvarna 281 Parts List and Diagram - (1986-01) : eReplacementParts.com Funnily enough it has the fuel pipe listed as obsolete. Mike
  11. Got the correct part today from Jonsie, thanks Max for taking the time and trouble to get it right. Cant remember now as it is so long since I stripped it which end goes to the carb and which end goes to the fuel tank. One end is longer that the other and the ends are different diameters. Any help? Mike
  12. I much prefer one that uses free fuel which is readily available
  13. I like my Kelly kettle because if it is raining I can brew up in the back of the van with the door is open and the fire is self contained in the fire bowl. You cant do that with an ecobilly
  14. Aren't Stenner still in business in Tiverton in Devon. I am sure they would be only too glad to help. Probably have manuals, photos etc and could possibly help with setting it up?
  15. Going to be a long and cold winter up here. Thank god my Citroen Relay van is front wheel drive so at least I will be able to get to the workshop.
  16. We have a serious problem in Glenrothes with people helping themselves to windblown timber at the side of the road and in the local woods. The attitude seems to be if its horizontal its a freebie. It got that bad a couple of years ago that the police issued a press release after some big storms as there were dozens of people running around the town with their Aldi,/B&Q specials without any PPE or signs up etc. As a lot of it was hung up it was just a matter of time before someone was injured or worse. The only problem with the police press release was that it was about 8 weeks after the storm. The police actually did nick several people d for theft though.
  17. The van window was all iced up at 6pm tonight. Supposed to be snowing tomorrow. Just have to wait and see.
  18. Its a wee while since has had any. Its a shame because I would get another. The compression on them is bloody horrendous. I have to put both my feet on the handle and pull the cord with my left hand. Got one for my mate and it is just the same, except he is an ex Royal Marine and he can start it without bother! Need to eat more porridge I suppose! Mike
  19. thanks Gary. Think I will get 2 if I can
  20. The fuel line is a loose fitting when it comes through the hole in the body from the petrol tank. I didn't know if you can buy separate grommits to fit in the hole and then put the pipe through. I will need to do some more research. Thanks Mark
  21. Its a wee while ago now but that's where I got if from. Pretty nice bloke and good to deal with
  22. Got the new fuel pipe today. Its just a straight bit of rubber hose. The original one has 2 grommets as part of it. I am correct in thinking that this will not do, as the grommet parts are there for a reason - so it doesn't leak from the fuel tank. If I use the new one will this happen as I predict or will it be ok to use it. Mike
  23. Anyone know where to get the adapter bits so I can fit on a brushcutter blade on it. I got the blade along with the strimmer and its never been used(probably because they didn't have the bits!) Mike
  24. Instead of using diesel or petrol to power the generator have a look at this link for wood gas. Could be a good way of linking the 2 systems? The GEK Project - GEK Gasifier
  25. Hi Steve, why don't you buy a token amount of shares and go to their AGM whenever that is and start asking the Chairman and Chief Executive a few awkward questions. There's nothing like the top dogs getting caught out in public and being embarrassed. Get a commitment from them to check it out in front of other shareholders. As the press will be there in droves some may want to interview you as a filler story to go along with the agm report. If you could type up a sheet with all the facts you could dish them out to the reporters as well. The press love easy stories and if its all in writing for them to just print verbatim, even better. its easier for them to sort out your complaint than it is to combat the negative publicity. You have to think clever on this one!
