  1. I have been to see a possible dismantle of a mature weeping willow. Apart from some dead wood it looks fine. I would say it is approx. 3-4 foot dbh,is 50' and nearing its life cycle. There is no obvious sign of disease. The customers concern is that it will die and fall onto the house hence They want it dismantled. I have suggested to hit it back hard as the close proximity to the property ( 8m) could lead to ground shrinkage due to the root system. Or am I just prelonging the inevitable? Your considered thoughts please.
  2. I have missed just one year coppicing and it has screwed me, I now gave to buy in but cannot find seasoned cord for love nor money. For the record I only sell my cord by stack measure green or seasoned. This cuts out the use of weigh bridge and everyone knows where they stand, me, the log supplier, the land owner and the haulier. Sorry if this is a repeat I was caught having a crafty piss in the deep end of my local swimming pool yesterday, the guard blew his whistle so hard I nearly fell in! Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk mobile app
  4. Rupe are you on site every day? Do you have a work- force? If so take half a day a week or whatever time you need to do admin and try and make it a part of your working week, leaving the lads on site for said period. You can only do so much in a day.
  5. My brother found a firm who trained him for cs 38/9 ( he somehow wangled a free course at the local college for 30-31) and he sat down with the boss and explained that he wanted to set up on his own and did not want to take the mick. They both came to an agreement on the firm funding the courses And my brother committing to the firm for x amount of time it worked for all parties. I on the other hand found a cs instructor in my local pub and he trained me for £100 and some wood and I then paid my assessment fees. Guess we were both lucky but food for thought.
  6. The kid is a fantastic true story. Quite a sad story with a good outcome.
  7. The bench is a great idea we had one made for my dad. You can always go and sit on it and chill, have a beer,a read or just take stock. My dads is a good hour away from me but I know where it is. Keep your pecker up mate it's what he would want.
  8. A-plan tooting branch. Been with them 10 years no one comes close, even with two claims in the last 3 years still only 650ish, it used to be about 4-450 before accidents.
  9. I think the problem he has is that he wants to visualise 22t on the deck without a weigh- bridge so the solution is a stack measure.
  10. My eldest when he was three " dad did you know there are only two places that you can see dinosaurs. One is at the museum and the other is in dinosaur land! But it is very very very very very very far away, you can borrow my rocket boots if you want." :-)

  17. Now this will sound strange but my old ms 170! It was my first new saw I bought. Sadly it was nicked. But I managed to get three acres of coppice down with it no fuss, that got me up and running. Now it's the 261 which replaced my stolen 260. Also can't beat the silky for a bit of peace and quiet.
  18. Huskey or stihl economy range are fine. The hiflex get snagged in no time and are bloody expensive.

    Jokes???

There are two things two worry about in life: either you are well or unwell. If you are well you have nothing to worry about, but if you are unwell then there are only two things to worry about: you either get better or you die. If you get better then you have nothing to worry about, but if you die then you only have two things to worry about: you either go to heaven or hell. If you go to heaven then you have nothing to worry about, but if you go to hell you will be so busy shaking hands with all of your friends, you won't have time to worry.... SO WHY WORRY!
