  2. I would just go with the option you feel most comfortable with and put the price in that reflects it mate you know you won't lose out then or get someone like peter in to give you a price then learn from him

  13. 3120xp love them too, big saws like someone said with little use just take care of it and will last you a lifetime
  14. I satrted a thread on this other week got asked to pollard a tree then said she's not paying because it looks crap I explained that I've done what she asked and repeatedly said it would look bad. She then said I'm not payin and her husband isn't happy and that he's rough think she knew what she was gonna do
  15. I've met a few of them skyhuck they go on about how good they were back in the day and how they are old school but they're still in their early thirties. I was thinking that I used to be faster but thinking back I was probably wasting energy running around the tree like an idiot because of lack of experience. I worked with an old bloke in the woods who looked slow but turned out loads of work
  16. You learn once you leave college IMO bit not not saying it's useless going to college you just need to know where the boundry is and I like to push it near the boundry and I know when to stop like rupe said in the middle is best
  17. I was always stihl but growing towards husqvarna got a 3120 it's awesome and if you want a big midrange saw I think the 395 husqy is the gear my last gaffer was 60 been in the trade all his life reckons it's the best saw he's ever used I don't like those 441s mate didn't like the feel and the few places I used to subby to always seemed to have nakered ones laid about heard of a lot of die hard stihl lads goin husqy apart from the climbing saw obviousy
  18. Just jokin too mate it's gotta be right though I think these days we can worry too much about what we can't do on site instead of testing things out or trying new things
  19. Sorry stamp mate didn't mean to but in on your thread was glad you put it though cos just seen that tree day before
  20. The wood that was probably smoking because it was bein worked so fast while you were getting you harness on mate
  21. I've only been in the trade 11 year but worked mostly with old school and bits with new school, I think it's good to be in the middle. I also think the new school maybe do everything how they are told instead of trying certain things that a college tutor would say is dangerous it probably stems from the fact that most tutors either haven't don't the job or they were crap at it, its good to respect health and safety but also know what you can push yourself to. A wise old arborist said to me that the new boys spend too much time worrying about what you can't do with timber instead of opening your mind a realising what you can do makes sense to me. I also think as someone said 15 years isn't long enough to look back really good thread though.
  22. Looked at the tree today told them about the danger and they didn't care to be honest and where we removed the snapped branch in the oak the tree was rotten in the centre and leaning over a very fast road they didn't fancy spending money there either but this tree def is a real danger also the other tree I climbed had a snapped branch in it still attached when I got up there about 50 foot up I could see someone had been up with a handsaw trying to cut it off they must be mental it hangs over both sides of the road these people are loaded can't believe It
  23. Thanks for the advice lads the fruiting bodies looked quite fresh when I looked at this tree so I will let you'd know if they bruise or not underneath just moved hous rand haven't got Internet on yet will see if my bro can get some pics up
  24. Think I know what you mean ha so to evaluate the extent of the decay in the roots what are we looking for crown die-back etc? It would be nice to leave it alone and monitor it if it was in the middle of a field but it is leaning toward a property.I certainly wouldn't like to say it's safe but also don't want to just tell them it needs to come out. The work I'm doing there is emergency works two oak limbs have split on two seperate trees which seems strange maybe this place is fungi fest il take a better look at the trees tomorrow only had a quick look as noticed the limbs on the way to a job and dropped a flyer in. Many thanks for advice by the way I'm newish to this side of things used to other people doing it and me just turning up and doing the work.
  25. Cheers mate the tree I'm thinking of I noticed in a neighbours garden to the one I'm working in tomorrow only had a quick glimpse tree looked fine but is leaning heavily towards the house. I read somewhere that someone (sorry forgot his name I'm useless) who reckons it doesn't kill the roots it lives off dead roots so something else must be attacking them, if this is the case would more fruiting bodies show more decay because there is quite a few of them around the base of the tree?
