  1. Why, thank you sir. I was holding it all in specially.
  2. … Better than the gym. by spring, you’ll look like this.
  3. How do you feel about fitting yourself out with a decent axe and a chopping block?
  4. Well, maybe it helped a bit.
  5. Not if only the outside of the oak burnt. :- )
  6. I think you have your answer regarding the oak. Get a load of properly seasoned in, and season the oak properly yourself.

    Jokes???

Just had a cracking mixed grill at the pub down in the village. Apparently, when the waitress comes over and asks you "How did you find the steak, sir?", the correct response isn’t “I just moved the gammon and the eggs to one side”.
  8. Unfortunately ‘top cover’, which looked encouraging, turns out to just be a chimney blacking-off plate.
  9. For some reason, there’s something about that that reminds me of my great aunt Edith.
  10. Sorry, that last one was a Piezo crap.
  11. I actually Flintched.
  12. OK, I’ll just Swan about for a bit.
  13. No you weigh them to see if one is a little lighter.
  14. The best way to actually light the wood when using the top-down-method is by rubbing two bits of kindling together. It’s ESSENTIAL that you very carefully make sure that both bits aren’t from different types of tree. You see, as long as they are exactly the same, you’ll have a match.

Whatever you do, for Christ’s sake don’t get rid of your hand tools.

  17. @adw genuine question. Do you see a time where rather than relying on the likes of Spud or Crocky to get the very best out of our saws, we’ll be sending them (or the batteries) off to whizz-kids with laptops, custom software and crafty circuit boards to do outrageous remapping mods? I kinda hope we do.

    Jokes???

…And at the moment….. … @Big J regretted leaving Devon for the very first time.
  19. It’s certainly an interesting looking thing. Looks like a pheasant feeder designed to be at a comfortable grazing height for deer. Not exactly pretty, but then, beauty (as they say) is in the eye of the beeholder.
  20. Keeping bees in a trunk is an inspired idea. Everyone knows that logs are best if you like keepin’ swarm.
  21. This is almost certainly the real issue. On a plus, store your oak ‘investment’ properly for a few years, and you’ll be living the dream.
  22. I did ok given the circumstances. Have done infinity better since - I am blessed. btw, first saw was Homelite XL12 of 1970s vintage (ironically same era as first gf).
  23. Still got my first saw. Bloody glad I don’t still have the first girlfriend!
  24. Maybe check that jackdaws haven’t been seizing an opportunity in your absence.
